The FSV Zwickau (advertised: Fußball-Sport-Verein Zwickau eV ) is a soccer club in the western Saxon city of Zwickau . It was founded on August 28, 1912. The first men's team takes part in the game operations of the 3rd division .

Structural development

The roots of the FSV lie in the Zwickau district of Planitz . That played before the Second World War the Planitzer SC , of 1933 to 1944 in the Gauliga Sachsen was represented. After the end of the war, all sports clubs in the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) were permanently dissolved. Loosely organized sports communities (SG) were allowed to continue the sports traffic, which were initially only allowed to hold competitions at the local level. Planitz athletes founded the SG Planitz on March 15, 1946 , which subsequently participated in the soccer championships in the Zwickau district and from 1947 in the state of Saxony.

In order to guarantee secure financing and logistics for the sports communities in the Soviet Zone, sports operations were organized through company sports associations (BSG) from 1948 onwards . Several Zwickau sports associations used this to found the Central Sports Association (ZSG) Horch Zwickau on March 15, 1949 with the help of the Horch vehicle factory and with the assistance of football players from the SG Planitz. Having been in the meantime, established in May 1950 DDR republic widely active sports association engine for the field engineering and vehicle had been launched, the ZSG into BSG Motor Zwickau was converted on 14 May 1950th

In 1968, BSG Motor became a pioneer in company-related name changes for company sports associations. As the first BSG in the higher football leagues, the people of Zwickau abandoned the name of the sports association and, from February 1, 1968, clearly referred to their sponsoring company VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke (formerly Horch) with the new name BSG Sachsenring. On March 31, 1969, the BSG activist Karl Marx Zwickau joined the BSG Sachsenring. The football team playing in the second-rate GDR league would compete as BSG Sachsenring II. After the political change in 1989/90 , the ban on the formation of clubs became obsolete and the political influence on sport by the GDR government ended. Members of the football section of the BSG Sachsenring took both of these as an opportunity to decide on January 31, 1990 to spin off and found the registered football sports association (FSV) Zwickau.

At the end of January 2020, a general meeting voted on the outsourcing of the professional team to a limited partnership . 87.8% of the 378 members present approved the project.

Company sports community

In 1948, SG Planitz had qualified for participation in the first soccer east zone championship and defeated SG Freiimfelde Halle 1-0 in the final with a goal by Horst Weiß. As fourth in the final round of Saxony in 1949, the newly formed ZSG Horch Zwickau missed participation in the East Zone Championship in 1949, but achieved the semi-final losers in the qualifying games in the FDGB Cup against SG Zeiss Jena (1: 1 afterwards, 2: 2 afterwards) V., 3: 0) participation in the Eastern Zone League (later GDR Oberliga ), which went into its first season in 1949/50. There the ZSG became the GDR's first football champion with 20 wins, one draw and five defeats. The starting eleven consisted of the following players:

Max Hofsommer (16 games / goals -) - Egon Jugel (19 / -), Helmut Schubert (18 / -) - Manfred Fuchs (22 / -), Gottfried Lenk (21/14), Herbert Heinze (26/11) - Lothar Kunack (24/6), Siegfried Meier (26/6), Heinz Satrapa (23/20), Karl Dittes (16/3), Johannes Breitenstein (21/1)

Until 1983, the Zwickauer played in the GDR league without interruption. As BSG Motor, they won the GDR Cup in 1963 and 1967 , and in 1975 they won their third cup as BSG Sachsenring. BSG Sachsenring achieved its greatest international success in the 1975/76 European Cup Winners' Cup. After the elimination of Panathinaikos Athens (0: 0, 2: 0), Fiorentina (0: 1, 1: 0/5: 4 E) and Celtic Glasgow (1: 1, 1: 0), Zwickau reached the semi-finals and only lost there to the eventual cup winners RSC Anderlecht with 0: 3 and 0: 2. After the founding of the sports and soccer clubs, Zwickau was the best-placed BSG in the major league several times at the end of the season. 1983 Sachsenring Zwickau had to relegate from the league for the first time. The following years were marked by several promotions and relegations between the GDR League and the Oberliga. The last season in GDR football game operations ended the BSG Sachsenring in 1989/90 in fourth place in the GDR league.

Soccer-Sport-Verein Zwickau e. V.

The new club FSV Zwickau played in 1990/91 in the second-rate league of the Northeast German Football Association . As the winner of Season B, the Zwickau team qualified for the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga , but only finished third and had to compete in the Northeast Football League in 1991/92 , which was then the 3rd division in the DFB league system .

From the 1994/95 season to 1997/98, FSV Zwickau played in the second division . During the four series in professional football 1995/96 even the promotion to the first division was just missed. In 1998 the team went back to the amateur camp. This was preceded by the dismissal of the successful trainer Gerd Schädlich at the end of 1996 . In the middle of the first half of 1999/2000 the financial situation of the FSV came to a head, which culminated in the insolvency of the club. The insolvency proceedings were successfully concluded after a long time. Since then, the goals were called at FSV Zwickau consolidation of finances and sporting fresh start. In 2005, the club rose from the southern season of the Oberliga Nordost (then the fourth division in Germany) to the Landesliga Sachsen , where it was directly promoted again. From the 2006/07 season, the FSV Zwickau played again in the NOFV-Oberliga Süd (fifth division after the establishment of the third division in Germany). After only one point from four games, coach Heinz Dietzsch was dismissed in September 2007 and replaced by Peter Keller .

After it became known that the club had debts of around € 700,000, the club had to file for bankruptcy again on March 8, 2010. After successfully completing the second insolvency proceedings in 2010, FSV Zwickau continued to play in the fifth division and in 2012 was already confirmed as a promoter to the Regionalliga Nordost in 2012 weeks before the end of the season . There the club ended the 2012/13 season as third in the table behind RB Leipzig and FC Carl Zeiss Jena . In the 2014/15 season , FSV Zwickau lost the championship of the Regionalliga Nordost and thus the relegation for promotion to the 3rd division in a neck-and-neck race with 1. FC Magdeburg on the penultimate matchday .

A year later, the football sports club Zwickau e. V. the promotion games: In the 2015/16 season, the Saxons took first place ahead of the Berlin AK with the same number of points due to the better goal difference . In the games for promotion to the 3rd division, the team of coach Torsten Ziegner met SV Elversberg . The first leg in Saarland ended 1: 1. The second leg in the Plauener Vogtlandstadion ended 1-0 for the FSV, which promoted them to the 3rd division for the first time in the 2016/17 season . After a weak first half series and financial problems that made relicensing necessary, FSV Zwickau did not apply for a license for the 2nd Bundesliga. After 38 match days, however, FSV Zwickau developed into the second best club in the second half of the season, level on points behind Holstein Kiel , and ended the season in 5th place in the table.

The club's second team finished the 2010/11 season in the district class first and rose to the district league. In the 2011/12 season, the second team finished the season in first place and played in the Landesliga Sachsen from 2012/13. After the 2015/2016 season, the second team was disbanded.

Stadion

West Saxony Stadium

Entrance tower of the Westsachsenstadion

The traditional home stadium of FSV Zwickau was the Westsachsenstadion , which was used until 2010 . It should be converted into a third division suitable venue; however, the conversion was stopped by the city of Zwickau due to excessive costs.

Sports forum "Soyuz 31"

Sports forum "Soyuz 31"

From the 2011/12 season, FSV Zwickau played its home games in the Soyuz 31 ” sports forum in Zwickau-Eckersbach. The sports forum at least fulfills the requirements of a regional league venue, but criticism of the steel scaffold stands has been expressed on various occasions. Opposing fans had repeatedly been able to dismantle grandstands or the fence in the past; the game against 1. FC Magdeburg in the 2014/15 season had to be interrupted for a long time due to such an incident.

GGZ arena

Stadium construction site in May 2016

On April 26, 2012, the Zwickau city council decided in a fundamental decision to build a new football stadium in the Eckersbach district . On September 26, 2013, a corresponding development plan was approved. The cost of the venue with around 10,000 seats - expansion option within 10 years, depending on athletic success, up to 15,000 seats - amounted to around 21 million euros. In contrast, the renovation costs for the Westsachsenstadion would have been around 25 to 30 million euros. The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony took place on February 6, 2015.

The new stadium meets both the requirements of the German Football Association (DFB) for the 3rd league and the requirements of FIFA for possible international games. The stadium rent for FSV Zwickau is based on the league membership and amounts to 350,000 euros for the 3rd division. In the case of non-promotion and remaining in the regional football league , the rent would have been 250,000 euros.

Since the new stadium in Eckersbach was not finished in time for the start of the season, the FSV played the first home games of the 2016/17 season in the DDV Stadium in Dresden .

The first competitive game in the new stadium was the DFB-Pokal first round match against Hamburger SV on August 22, 2016. On September 21, 2016, the FSV achieved their first home win with a 4-0 win over Jahn Regensburg . Marcel Bär scored a hat trick (1-0, 2-0, 3-0).

There is an ultra group called "RED KAOS". In addition, a fan friendship with Dynamo Dresden is maintained.
