Alkersum ( Danish : Alkersum , North Frisian : Aalkersem ) is a municipality on the island of Föhr in the district of North Friesland in Schleswig-Holstein . Outside the village of Alkersum there are eight emigrant farms in the community .

Geographical location
Alkersum is located in the center of the island of Föhr at the transition from the Föhrer Geest to the spacious marshland of the Föhrer north. The core area of the settlement structure, the village of Alkersum, is located in the eastern part of the municipality and thus on the Geest.

history
The first settlement of today's municipality took place in the Iron Age .
politics
Community representation
Since the local elections in 2018 , the Alkersum Voting Association (AWG) has all nine seats in the municipal council.
mayor
Ina Ketels was elected mayor for the 2013-2018 election period. She replaced Karl-Heinz Juhl, who had been in charge of the community for more than 30 years. She resigned in 2014; her successor was Johannes Siewertsen.
economy
Several businesses have settled on the outskirts of Alkersum. Tourism and the riding stables in the municipality are also important economic factors.
Culture
Since August 2009 there is the Museum of Art of the West Coast in Alkersum . There works of art on the themes of the sea and the coast of the North Sea area are exhibited.
Personalities
The German-Swedish physician and founder of the Ferring company , Frederik Paulsen (1909–1997), died in Alkersum.
