Aubonne is a French municipality with 240 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Aubonne is located at 662  m , about 15 kilometers north of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in a valley in the extreme northeast of the high plateau of Val d'Usiers, between the Loue valley in the west and Mont Pelé in the east.

The area of the 15.17 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The western part of the area is taken up by the Aubonne valley. This valley basin, which is flanked on the north side by the heights of Clairmont , forms the north-eastern end of the Val d'Usiers plateau. It opens to the west to the deeply carved erosion valley of the Loue, with the community floor only reaching the upper edge of the steep slope. The only surface flowing water is the Buhin stream , but it seeps away below the village. Otherwise, the entire area has no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.

To the north, the municipality extends to the plateau of Les Prés-de-Vaire ( 780  m ), which is partly covered by meadows and partly by forest. The community area extends with a narrow strip to the east over a wooded slope on the wide ridge that stretches from Mont Pelé to Crêt Monniot and on which there are extensive high pastures. From a geological and tectonic point of view, this ridge forms an anticline of the Jura folds . At 1091  m , the highest point in Aubonne is reached here.

In addition to the actual village, Aubonne also includes several hamlets and individual farms, including:

  • Narmaud ( 730  m ) on a terrace east of the Aubonne valley basin
  • Les Prés-de-Vaire ( 769  m ) on the plateau east of the Côte de Rappant

history

The municipal area of Aubonne was already settled in prehistoric times, as evidenced by a burial ground in the Sur le Bey corridor. In the 17th century, Aubonne was the center of its own small rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Attractions

The village church of Saint-Antide was built from 1767 to 1769 in Baroque style on the site of an earlier church. The château, a mansion from the 18th century, has been changed. Various farmhouses in the characteristic style of the Haut-Doubs from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the old town center.

With 240 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Aubonne is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (493 people were still counted in 1891), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Aubonne was a village dominated by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding, as well as forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located near the main road N57, which leads from Besançon to Pontarlier. There are other road connections with Saint-Gorgon-Main and Hautepierre-le-Châtelet.
