Model history

Rear view

In 2000, a concept vehicle was formally shown for the first time at the Mondial de l'Automobile , which was called Kalos and was similar to the series vehicle. In the case of the production model, the same presentation took place at the Geneva Motor Show 2002.

The Kalos was initially offered by Daewoo as Daewoo Kalos from September 2002 to February 2005 . The name Kalos is of Greek origin and means something like "The beautiful one".

In the USA, hatchbacks and notchbacks were called " Chevrolet Aveo " from 2004 .

From spring 2005, the notchback version previously reserved for other markets was also sold in Germany , but sales were discontinued after a short time due to lack of demand. In addition, the Kalos Sprint, which has been upgraded to 96 kW by the Swiss compressor specialist Delta-Motor, was officially offered in 2005 .

After all Daewoo models were renamed to the Chevrolet brand, the Daewoo Kalos became the Chevrolet Kalos in February 2005.

A new notchback sedan was introduced in mid-2006. This was marketed in Germany under the name Chevrolet Aveo as an independent model and not as a "Kalos" variant (from 2008 all models were then called Aveo). As before, the notchback model cannot be distinguished from the American versions.

In autumn 2007 with a formal presentation at the IAA , the vehicle underwent an extensive facelift, which, like the compact notchback model, was also offered as a Chevrolet Aveo from the beginning of 2008.

Production ended in spring 2011.

Vehicle characteristics

The vehicle was offered with two different four-cylinder engines, a 1.2 with 53 kW and a 1.4 with 69 kW - these designations referring to the cubic capacity in liters. There are LX and SX models as equipment variants.

The Kalos, designed by the Italian designer Giorgio Giugiaro , was available in three- and five-door versions. The trunk of the Kalos has a capacity of 220 liters and can be expanded to 980 liters by folding down the backrests. The notchback variant holds 375 liters.

Vehicle variants for gaseous fuels

Chevrolet offered the Kalos ex works with an LPG system. The gas tank was installed instead of the spare wheel in the spare wheel recess with a capacity of 47 liters of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). The range of the vehicle was thus extended by up to 500 km.

Outside of Europe

The vehicle was also available in Australia as the Daewoo Gentra and Holden Barina . In the US it was sold as the Pontiac  G3 and in Canada as the Pontiac Wave . In Canada it was also offered as the Suzuki Swift + . These models also received a facelift at the end of 2007.
