William J. Edwards
William Jackson "Jack" Edwards (born September 20, 1928 in Birmingham , Alabama , † September 27, 2019 in Mobile , Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ). He was the great-great-grandson of US Congressman William F. Aldrich .
Career
William Jackson "Jack" Edwards graduated from Shades Cahaba in Homewood, Alabama in 1946 . He attended the United States Naval School in 1947 and 1948 . He then went to the University of Alabama , where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1952 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1954 . He also served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) between 1946 and 1948 and again between 1950 and 1951 . Edwards was admitted to the bar in 1954 and then opened his own legal practice. In the same year he also worked as a teacher for business law.
Edwards also had a political career. He was a member of the Transportation Advisory Committee of the Mobile City Planning Commission between 1960 and 1963 . Then in 1970 he attended the Republican State Convention as a delegate . He was elected to the 89th US Congress and re - elected the nine subsequent US Congresses . Edwards served in the US House of Representatives from January 3, 1965 to January 3, 1985. He turned down a candidacy for the 99th US Congress in 1984 and resumed his legal practice after the end of his term. Edwards was nominated for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority by US President Reagan in 1987 .
He last lived in Point Clear , Alabama.
