The 1978/79 Copa del Rey was the 75th edition of the Spanish Football Cup .
The competition started on September 12, 1978 and ended with the final on June 30, 1979 at the Estadio Vicente Calderón in Madrid . The defending champion of the cup competition was FC Barcelona . Valencia CF won the title by beating Real Madrid 2-0 in the final . Valencia qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1979/80 .
First round
The first legs were played on September 12, 20, 21, 27, 29 and 30 and on October 1, and the second legs on October 1, 11, 12, 18 and 19, 1978.

Second round
The first legs were played on October 25, November 1 and 9, the second legs on November 1, 9, 14, 22, 23, 29 and 30 and on December 8 and 21, 1978 .
