Buyer solicitation

Ford originally planned to produce a limited number of vehicles, but at least 300, of which 150 each in 2017 and 2018. In the meantime, Ford has increased the number to 1,350 vehicles, which will be produced over six years. In order to acquire a GT, a prospective buyer has to go through a strict application program in which, among other things, it must be stated how often the GT should be driven, how active the prospective buyer is in social networks and how many Ford vehicles he owned. A personal interview was also necessary before purchasing the super sports car. The application process could be completed in 21 countries around the world, including Germany. Applications for the first 500 units were received between April 13, 2016 and May 12, 2016, and a total of more than 6,500 people applied for the vehicles. The 250 copies of the third year of production 2019 will only be for applicants who were rejected at the first stage of the application process. From November 8, 2018, Ford only accepted new applications for the final production years 2021 and 2022 with a further 350 units.

In July 2016, the selected Ford customers were informed of the success of their application. On 16 December 2016, the production of the vehicle was launched in a new factory in Canada Markham , the first Ford GT were just delivered it. In Europe, the first vehicles were handed over to customers in February 2018. The price in Germany is around 530,000 euros. Nine of the first 250 copies from 2017 are to be delivered in Germany.

The US wrestler John Cena sold the Ford GT he received in October 2017 just a month later. Ford then filed a lawsuit against Cena. You referred to clauses in the application process and in the order confirmation contract. There, the resale of the sports car is allegedly prohibited in the first two years after delivery.

Model variants

'66 Heritage Edition

For the 2017 model year, the Ford GT '66 Heritage Edition was offered, a special model limited to 50 copies based on the victorious Ford GT40 of the 1966 Le Mans 24-hour race . The body is optionally painted glossy or matt in Shadow Black and is decorated with silver rally stripes and a carbon fiber package. Above that, there are graphics on the hood on the front of the vehicle and on the doors based on the start number 2 of the GT40 prototype in the paint color Frozen White . The aluminum wheels are painted glossy gold. The interior is defined by ebony leather, gold applications and blue seat belts.

'67 Heritage Edition

Ford GT '67 Heritage Edition

The Ford GT '67 Heritage Edition is the second model from the Heritage Edition series and is reminiscent of the Ford GT40 Mark IV, which won Le Mans in 1967. Analogous to the model, the body of the '67 Heritage Edition is in Race Red with white rallye and side stripes as well as the start number 1 painted on the hood and doors. The exterior mirrors and rims are painted silver, the brake calipers are red. Special equipment features in the interior include red accent stitching on the seats and the steering wheel, red seat belts and anodized shift paddles. The special model was offered in limited numbers for the 2018 model year.

2019 Heritage Edition

In August 2018, Ford presented the third Heritage Edition special model. The 2019 Heritage Edition celebrates the Ford GT40 in Gulf livery, which was the overall winner of the 1968 and 1969 Le Mans 24 Hours. The body is painted in Heritage Blue with stripes in Heritage Orange . In contrast to the two previous variants in the series, the 2019 Heritage Edition will be offered over two model years. The models produced in 2019 have start number 9 and those built in 2020 have start number 6. Regardless of the model year, the rims are painted glossy dark gray, the brake calipers are painted orange. In the interior there are blue and orange contrasting stitching on the steering wheel and the seats. The latter also have a new embossing inspired by the winning car from 1968.

Competition Series

Ford GT Competition Series in Shadow Black

The Competition Series was presented in Daytona in February 2017, a few weeks after the first class victory of the racing version of the Ford GT at the Daytona 24-hour race . With the limited special model, Ford offered a lighter version of the GT. The vehicle's center of gravity is further reduced through the use of a lighter acrylic engine cover as well as A-pillars and exterior mirrors made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (KFK) in order to improve road holding. Alcantara and KFK surfaces are used in the interior, while equipment such as air conditioning, radio, loudspeakers, luggage racks and cup holders are omitted to further reduce weight. The exterior is characterized by a KFK Racing Stripe , KFK wheels, various other components made of KFK and a titanium exhaust system. The Competition Series is offered exclusively in North America in the exterior colors black, white, silver, blue, gray and yellow.

Carbon Series

In October 2018, Ford presented the Ford GT Carbon Series as an exclusive special model for the US market. This model variant is 18 kg lighter than the basic model due to the use of more carbon elements. The revised components include KFK wheels with titanium wheel nuts, a titanium exhaust system and an engine cover made of polycarbonate . In contrast to the Competition Series , the Carbon Series has air conditioning and an audio system. Externally, the Carbon Series can be recognized by the carbon rally stripes, matt black wheels and various KFK elements in the exterior and interior. With the optional accents package (the colors silver, orange, red and blue are available), exterior mirrors, brake calipers and an additional narrow stripe in the respective color are added as further identifying features. Only one copy of the Carbon Series is to be produced per week.

GT Mk II

During the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2019, the Ford GT Mk II, a non-roadworthy version of the Ford GT limited to 45 copies, was presented. The Mk II was developed together with Multimatic and is intended to demonstrate the full performance potential of the Ford GT without restrictions from regulatory authorities or motorsport regulations. The special model is first built in the Ford GT main plant in Markham before it is converted and completed in a "special factory" by Multimatic Motorsports. According to the manufacturer, the aerodynamic add-on parts generate more downforce than the GTE racing version of the Ford GT, from which many components of the Mk II come. Further modifications include a motor that is now more than 700 hp, 5-way adjustable shock absorbers, Michelin racing tires, a recalibrated gearbox, a large air inlet on the roof, a Sparco racing seat with 6-point racing belts and a MoTeC telemetry system . According to Ford, the performance on racetracks exceeds that of GT3 and GTD racing cars. However, the GT Mk II is not homologated for any advertised racing series and can therefore only be used as a track day vehicle. The GT Mk II was sold by Multimatic for a starting price of $ 1.2 million. According to a statement by the President and CEO of Multimatic, Raj Nair , the demand for the Mk II was so high that all 45 vehicles could have been sold on the day of the launch. As a result, the order window was closed on August 31, 2019.

2021 Heritage Edition

Based on the vehicle that won the Daytona 24-hour race in 1966 , Ford presented another model of the Heritage Edition in August 2020. It is identified by a black bonnet, red elements, black stripes and the start number 98.
