List of rivers in Rhineland-Palatinate

The rivers in Rhineland-Palatinate listed here flow at least partially through the state of Rhineland-Palatinate or on its border. All of them flow directly or indirectly into the Rhine , in whose catchment area the whole country lies. The list contains rivers with a total length of ten kilometers or more, all or part of which flow in Rhineland-Palatinate.

In addition - with color highlighting like here -

recorded short rivers that themselves have tributaries of over ten kilometers in length,

and also

foreign rivers, which, however, receive tributaries from Rhineland-Palatinate.

The lakes in Rhineland-Palatinate are summarized in a separate list .

Systematics

In order to achieve not just a simple list, but the clearest possible representation of the water hierarchy, the water bodies are assigned to the Rhine sections Upper Rhine , Middle Rhine and Lower Rhine . The three tables have the following columns:

All tributaries are arranged downstream according to their place of mouth at the receiving water, i.e. from its origin to its mouth . After re-sorting the table, this order can be restored by re-sorting according to the GKZ .

According to their order , the 2nd and 3rd order tributaries are indented in the river system, which is structured as follows:

  1st order: only the Rhine, which is not noted in the tables.
  2nd order: rivers that flow directly into the Rhine
  - 3rd order: rivers that flow into 2nd order rivers
  - 4th order: rivers that flow into 3rd order rivers
