The Bundesautobahn 111 (abbreviation: BAB 111 ) - short form: Autobahn 111 (abbreviation: A 111 ), also called feeder Oranienburg - runs completely in the north of Berlin since December 1987 and connects the Berliner Stadtautobahn (A 100) with the Berliner Ring (A 10 ) from the junction Charlottenburg on the former cross Reinickendorf to Oranienburg . Between the junctions Schulzendorfer Straße and Waidmannsluster Damm , the road ran for a long time as the B 111 without any historical reference to the actual federal road 111 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
The A 111 was used from December 31, 1987 until German reunification in 1990 for transit traffic through the GDR to Hamburg and Malmö ( Sweden ) with the Heiligensee / Stolpe border crossing .
From 1975 until reunification, the motorway was referred to as the A 11 . In the course of the numbering of the autobahns after 1990 in East Germany, the new number A 111 was assigned.
Tegel Airport tunnel
The tunnel Tegel Airport Berlin , shorter tunnel Tegel Airport (TFT), was taken in 1979 during the construction of the A 111 in operation. The length of the east tunnel tube (north direction) is 967 m, the west tunnel tube (south direction) extends over a length of 878 m. Transponder in the asphalt surface
In the period from October to December 2011, transponders were installed every 50 meters on a 7.5 kilometer section of the A 111 near Hennigsdorf while the asphalt surface was being renewed . With this pilot project, which cost around four million euros, the chips are used to save all relevant data from the day the new asphalt pavement is paved. According to the commissioned research company Kirchner , this leads for the first time to an exact recording of all parameters of the manufacturing process such as air temperature, wind force, temperature and humidity of the subsoil as well as deviations from the specified optimal values of the building material. This quality control makes it possible to determine the best variants, which in turn should lead to a longer durability of road surfaces to be produced later. The chips are one millimeter thick and ten millimeters in diameter. They remain in the ceiling until the next lane renewal, the data can be called up at any time. Next, work will be carried out on further developing the data chips for controlling traffic flows , winter services or even road heating.
Planned renovation
Due to the structural condition, a thorough renovation of the Berlin section of the A 111 is expected to be necessary from 2021. In addition to the renewal of the carriageway, this also includes the renovation of the Beyschlagsiedlung tunnels, Tegel Forestry Office and Tegel town center, as well as the construction of replacement bridges in this section of the route. Others
The Hinckeldeybrücke bus stop near Tegel Airport , which is served by the M21 line, is the only bus stop in Germany on a motorway. Until the 1980s, there were also several bus stops on the Berlin city motorway and the western bypass, which were served by BVG lines 65 and 84 .
