    BAB 445 and the B 1

The federal autobahn 445 (abbreviation: BAB 445 ) - short form: Autobahn 445 (abbreviation: A 445 ) - leads from Werl via Wickede to Arnsberg ( Neheim-Hüsten ). There it turns into the A 46 and continues to Bestwig . Therefore, it also takes on the descending numbering of the junctions on the A 46 coming from Bestwig.

    Planning

    Current plans

Plans are in place to close the gap between the A 2 in Hamm-Rhynern and the current end of the expansion north of Werl. The A 445 should form a crossbar between the west-east lines A 2, A 44 and A 46. Since the gap on the A 46 in the direction of Hagen has not yet been closed in the south, this goal has only been partially achieved.

The expansion of the A 445 is envisaged as an urgent requirement in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan; the approximately eight-kilometer stretch is to be built with two lanes in each direction. The planning approval procedure for the further construction of the A 445 between Werl and the A 2 was initiated in February 2011. In 2003 the construction costs were estimated at around 40 million euros, in 2006 at around 60 million euros. The expansion is controversial due to its interference with nature. After a three-day discussion meeting in November 2012, the planning approval decision was expected from mid-2013 at the earliest; in 2015 the planning approval procedure was still ongoing.

The end of the A 445 in the south between Wickede and Neheim-Hüsten is actually not a real end, instead the route merges directly into the course of the A 46 towards Brilon. The driver only notices the change in numbering from the somewhat unusual numbering on the signposts at the Neheim junction. In addition to the numbering A 46 that applies from there, the numbering A 445 is shown crossed out, and vice versa when coming from the A 46 in the direction of Werl.

The actual end of the A 445 and thus the place for the planned motorway triangle with the not yet built section of the A 46 in the direction of Hagen is near Ense . Since there is currently no junction there, a short section of the A 46 is currently signposted as A 445.

    Earlier planning

Originally, the planned start of the A 445 was a triangle with the never built northern variant of the A 40 , the so-called Lipperland motorway. The route should continue over a Lippe bridge to a cross with the A 2 near Rhynern , the current end of the planned expansion of the route in the north. After the A 441 in Dortmund was not realized as a motorway and is now only signposted as the B 236 and the A 443 near Unna was only partially built and has now even been stepped back to the main road , the A 445 is the only one of three originally planned Autobahn cross bars along the A 44.

    Replacements

The A 445 replaces the B 63 in the downtown area of Werl and is therefore also the north-south bypass of Werl. Some of the typical blue motorway signposts are therefore still provided with the federal road number even today. However, some of these numbers have now also been pasted over.
