Burgtheater casts from 2014 to 2019

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wards , 2015

The Burgtheater casts from 2014 to 2019 list all actors, as well as the leading teams not yet of all new productions of the Vienna Burgtheater in the Bergmann direction .

Bergmann Directorate

The Burgtheater has been under the direction of Karin Bergmann on an interim basis since March 19, 2014 and since October 11, 2014 . Since the new Burgtheater director stepped in without the possibility of advance planning, she had to take over a large part of the projects of her predecessor Matthias Hartmann, who was dismissed on March 11, 2014 . The first official acts of the new director included the dismissal of the premier Hartmann production The Wrong Film (in March 2014) and the appointment of director Georg Schmiedleitner for The Last Days of Mankind , a co-production of the Burgtheater with the Salzburg Festival (in July 2014) which should also have been staged by Hartmann.

In her schedule press conference for the 2014–15 season, Bergmann stated that she was “about the central issues of humanity, about the conflict between the state and the individual”. They span an arc from antiquity to contemporary drama and offer a wide range of different artistic manuscripts. The first significant demarcation from its predecessor consisted in emphasizing the relevance of the political on stage and in the promise of new directors for the Burgtheater: Dušan David Pařízek , Christian Stückl , Robert Borgmann and Jette Steckel . Pařízek staged the ridiculous darkness by Wolfram Lotz , Borgmann the unmarried one by Ewald Palmetshofer , both premieres, both invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen 2015. Stückl took over the direction of Peter Turrinis When Darkness fell on the occasion of the poet's 70th birthday. The choice of Jelinek's highly political Die Schutzbefohlenen also signaled a clear change compared to Bergmann's predecessor, who also played Jelinek, but whose rather apolitical texts Die Winterreise und Schatten (Eurydice says) . Clearly Bergmann's decision was also Hermann Bahr's salon comedy Das Konzert , which of course met with mixed reactions from criticism. Jette Steckel once again set a strong political accent with her, on the one hand, pop-like and, on the other hand, critical interpretation of Sophocles' Antigone at the end of the season.

Academy Theater

The old law of the Burgtheater - the great classics in the big house, the small, fine pieces in the Akademietheater - also applies to the Bergmann management. The new director was very lucky with two world premieres by Wolfram Lotz and Ewald Palmetshofer , both of whom were invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen , and with an Austrian premiere of Roland Schimmelpfennig : Das Reich der Tiere . A children's play, a salon comedy and a relatively seldom played Ibsen completed the 2014–15 program of the Kleines Haus der Burg, which traditionally is loved even more by the Viennese audience than the castle due to the intimacy of the frame, the good view, the excellent acoustics and especially the proximity to the castle actors.

2015–16

The program for the 2015–16 season had two clear focuses: three Russian classics in the big house and a lot of contemporary drama in all houses. Alvis Hermanis opened the Russian focus with a new version of his legendary production of Nikolaj Gogol's Der Revisor , followed by Andreas Kriegenburg with Maxim Gorkis Wassa Schelesnowa . Daniel Bösch and Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters ensured the connection . From the previous season, the exemplary Antú-Romero-Nunes production of Tolstoy's power of darkness was on the program of the Academy Theater. All four productions were gratefully received by the press and the public, especially due to the outstanding acting performances of the ensemble. But the Handke world premiere, staged by the former Burgtheater director Claus Peymann , and two comedies, Molière's conceited sick man and Goldoni's servant of two masters , received excellent reviews and applause from the audience.

When the Nestroy Theater Prize 2015 was awarded in November 2015, mind you for achievements in the previous season, four of the five actor prizes went to members of the Burgtheater's ensemble, as well as the prize for the best production and the best play. This clearly describes the current dominance of the castle in the Austrian theater landscape.

Academy Theater

The program of the Kleines Haus der Burg was extremely contemporary-oriented in the 2015-16 season: two world premieres from Hungary and Carinthia, two Austrian premieres of French theater texts, two dramas and a novel from the 20th century (from 1924, 1968 and 1990) . Thanks to the excellent ensemble of actors and brilliant directors, even difficult and cumbersome texts were received with attention and approval by the Viennese audience.
