The 1979/80 Copa del Rey was the 76th edition of the Spanish Football Cup.
The competition started on September 12, 1979 and ended with the final on June 4, 1980 in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu ( Madrid ). Defender of the Cup competition was FC Valencia . In the final of the competition there was a constellation that was unique in the history of the Spanish Cup: Real Madrid met their own amateur team, Castilla CF , which had eliminated numerous top division clubs in the course of the competition. In the end, the professionals won the final game 6-1. However, since they were qualified as champions of the league for the 1980/81 European Cup , the club's second team received the right to participate in the 1980/81 European Cup Winners' Cup .
