Grand is a French commune in the Vosges department in the region of Grand Est (2015 Lorraine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Neufchâteau and the Canton of Neufchâteau . The residents call themselves Grandésinois or Grandésiniens.
geography
Grand is the westernmost municipality in the Vosges department. It lies in the hilly terrain between the river valleys of the Marne and Meuse , north of the Langres plateau on the border of the departments of Meuse and Haute-Marne . There are no surface running waters in the 36.59 km² community. The precipitation seeping through the calcareous soil emerges to the west and north of Grand and drains to the Marne via the Maldite and Ognon streams , which later merge to form the Ornain . This makes this area the only one in the department that is part of the Seine catchment area . Over half of the municipal area is covered by forests ( Forêt des Batis, Bois du Gagnage, Bois des Gourseaux ). Neighboring municipalities of Grand are Dainville-Bertheléville in the north ( Département Meuse ), Avranville in the northeast, Midrevaux and Pargny-sous-Mureau in the east, Brechainville in the south, Trampot in the southwest, Morionvilliers and Germay in the west (both Département Haute-Marne ) and Lezéville in the north-west (Haute-Marne department).
