Ingrid Mickler-Becker

Ingrid Mickler-Becker (born September 26, 1942 in Geseke as Ingrid Becker ) is a former German athlete who participated in the pentathlon in Mexico in 1968 and later in Munich in 1972 with the 4 x 100 meter relay twice for the Federal Republic of Germany Won gold medal at the Olympic Games .

Life

Sports

She first took part in the Olympic Games in 1960 and was the youngest member of the German team that year. In 1971 she was elected Sportswoman of the Year after two victories at the European Championships . In her active career, she started for LG Geseke and USC Mainz . With a height of 1.78 m, she had a competition weight of 64 kg. She has been a personal member of the National Olympic Committee since 1977 . Ingrid Mickler-Becker is a member of the Geseke Athletics Association (LG Geseke), probably the oldest LG in Germany, and has also started as an active athlete for this club for many years. Even today she is committed to the association and her hometown Geseke . As chairman, she heads the support association for athletics in Geseke.

On November 27, 1968 she received the silver laurel leaf for winning the gold medal in the pentathlon at the 1968 Olympic Games - under her family name at the time, Becker.

In 2005 Ingrid Mickler-Becker received the Golden Sportpyramid 2005 (25,000 euros) from the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation for her life's work as an athlete and for promoting sport. In 2006 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of German Sports . In 2009 she was made an honorary citizen of Geseke.

Ingrid Mickler-Becker's father died in World War II . She was initially a saleswoman and community worker and later took up a teaching degree. In 1973 she received the price of the Minister of Culture of Rhineland-Palatinate for the best exam of the year at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .

Until 1987 she was a high school teacher for sports and social studies in Mainz , after which she went to the USA , where her husband worked as an engineer. In 1990 she was State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs of Rhineland-Palatinate for the CDU for a year and a half , but lost the post again after the next election. Later she worked for a German-Swiss consulting firm.

Mickler-Becker is married and has one son. She lives in Zornheim ( Rheinhessen ).

  • 2nd place with the 4 x 100 meter relay (44.0 s, together with Bärbel Hähnle , Jutta Stöck and Rita Jahn (Wilden) )
• 1971, European Championships :
  • 1st place in the long jump (6.41 - invalid - 6.64 - invalid - invalid - 6.76 m)
  • 1st place with the 4 x 100 meter relay (43.3 s, European record , together with Elfgard Schittenhelm , Inge Helten and Annegret Irrgang (judge) )
  • 2nd place in the 100 meter run (11.5 s), defeated by Renate Stecher
• 1972, Olympic Games :
  • 1st place with the 4 x 100 meter relay (42.81 s, world record , together with Christiane Krause , Annegret Richter and Heide Rosendahl )
  • 100-meter run: eliminated in the semi-finals
  • Long jump: qualification not met
