List of the House of Representatives constituencies in Berlin 2006
The list of the Berlin House of Representatives 2006 contains the constituency associations and the constituencies for the 16th election of the Berlin House of Representatives on September 17, 2006.
Basics
In the elections to the Berlin House of Representatives, each of the twelve districts forms a constituency association. The Berlin Senate determined before each election based on the current population figures on how many constituencies are set up in each constituency association. The delimitation of the constituencies is carried out independently by the districts.
According to the current legal situation, the Berlin House of Representatives has 130 members . Of these, 52 are elected via state lists ( second vote ) and a further 78 via constituencies in the 12 constituency associations. The constituency candidate with a relative majority of the first votes is elected. In the event of a tie, the lot drawn by the district returning officer decides .
In contrast to the regulation of the Bundestag election, the state electoral law provides for compensatory mandates if a party has more constituency members than it would be entitled to after the second vote ( overhang seats ). It is therefore always ensured that the strength of the political groups corresponds to the result of the second vote.

Compared to the previous constituencies from 2001, 58 of the 78 constituencies have been changed. The districts of Mitte and Lichtenberg each lost one constituency, while the Pankow and Tempelhof-Schöneberg districts each gained one constituency.
