Stefan Forster (rower)

Stefan Forster (born December 14, 1971 in Würzburg ) is a former German rower who was world champion with the eighth in 1995 .

Athletic career

Forster finished fourth at the Junior World Championships in 1989 with eighth place, and in 1992 he won eighth at the U23 World Championships . Stefan Forster, Mark Kleinschmidt , Ulrich Viefers , Marc Weber and helmsman Guido Groß won the bronze medal behind the Romanians and the Czechs in a four with helmsman at the 1993 World Championships in Racice . At the 1994 World Championships in Indianapolis , Forster, Kleinschmidt, Viefers and Weber rowed in four without a helmsman to sixth place. In 1995 Forster moved up to eighth place in Germany and became world champion in Tampere . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ike Landvoigt , Stefan Forster, Claas-Peter Fischer and Stefan Scholz finished ninth in the four without a helmsman. In 1997 a new crew entered the four without a helmsman: Stefan Heinze , Uwe Steenblock , Stefan Forster and Kai Horl reached the A final at the 1997 World Championships and took sixth place. In 1998 Heinze, Forster and Horl sat in the German eight, which won the silver medal behind the US eight at the 1998 World Championships in Cologne . In 1999 Forster was again in eighth place, with tenth place at the 1999 World Championships , the Germany eighth missed qualification for the 2000 Summer Olympics.

The 1.98 m tall Stefan Forster started for the Academic Rowing Club Würzburg . Forster won German championships in 1996 with the four-man without a helmsman, in 1993 and 1995 with the four-man with a helmsman, and in 1998 and 1999 with the eighth. As a student at the University of Cambridge , he won the 1998 Boat Race .
