- Islamabad / Pakistan : A joke caller posing as the Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee called the Pakistani Prime Minister Asif Ali Zardari and warned him that India would resort to military means if Pakistan were to be the perpetrators of the November 26, 2008 attacks in Mumbai not deliver. The subsequent alert of the Pakistani Air Force was only lifted hours later after US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called the real Indian Foreign Minister.
- Peshawar / Pakistan A bomb attack kills at least 20 people.
- Tokyo / Japan : Honda increases because of the financial crisis from the Formula 1 from. This means that only nine teams will start next season .

- Gdansk / Poland : A meeting between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and the Dalai Lama is heavily criticized by China .
- Greece : The riots in Greece in 2008 began after the killing of a 15-year-old by a police officer.
- Copenhagen / Denmark : The film Gomorrah - Journey into the Empire of the Camorra by director Matteo Garrone wins the European Film Award 2008 .

- Accra / Ghana : In the presidential elections , opposition politician John Atta-Mills ( NDC ) is declared the winner, who just manages to prevail against his rival Nana Akufo-Addo from the ruling NPP .
- Athens / Greece : After a police officer shot a 15-year-old the day before under unexplained circumstances, there are serious riots and riots between police officers and autonomous groups in major Greek cities .
- Dublin / Ireland : Ireland is recalling all pork products sold since September due to possible dioxin contamination . The Federal Ministry of Agriculture therefore calls on the food industry to take meat off the market as a precaution.

- Offenbach / Germany : According to the German Weather Service , 2008 is one of the seven warmest since the beginning of the weather record. The DWD sees the main cause in climate change .
- Washington, DC / United States : The Federal Reserve System is cutting the key interest rate to the historically lowest level of 0 to 0.25 percent.
- Washington, DC / United States : President- elect Barack Obama nominates Steven Chu, Nobel Prize winner in physics, as Minister of Energy . Former head of the Environmental Protection Agency , Carol M. Browner , will become Obama's advisor on energy and climate. Since Chu and Browner have been committed to climate protection in the past, this is seen as a sign of a turnaround in US energy policy.

Its decision followed a ruling by the Berlin Administrative Court in March. The federal government put Revision at the Federal Administrative Court one.
- Berlin / Germany : The 21-year-old photographer Alice Smeets from Eupen ( Belgium ) wins the international competition » UNICEF Photo of the Year« 2008. At the award ceremony, the photographer is awarded for a picture from her series "Growing up in Haiti" , the shows a girl in Cité Soleil , a slum in Port-au-Prince . The child wears a clean white dress and white bows in their hair as they walk barefoot through puddles full of dirt and debris.

- Kabul / Afghanistan : More than 40 people are killed in two attacks in the border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan . A bomb attack in a school used as a polling station in Pakistan's Swat Valley kills 27 and in the Afghan province of Khost a suicide bomber kills 16 people, including 14 children.

Israel's Defense Minister Ehud Barak speaks of a “war to the bitter end”, and Chief of Staff Dan Harel adds that the worst is not over yet. At least 345 people have been killed in the attacks so far.

- Vatican City : The Holy See will devote special attention to Africa in 2009. The spokesman for Pope Benedict XVI. , Federico Lombardi SJ, describes Africa as "a continent with great potential and great wealth of resources [...] above all human resources", which "can finally make its contribution to humanity". In March 2009 the Pope is expected to travel to Africa.
