  • Guangzhou / China : As a result of the global financial and economic crisis in the United States, Japan and parts of Europe, there are mass layoffs of migrant workers in the coastal regions. Violent demonstrations occur in particular by dismissed migrant workers in Guangdong Province .
  • Tehran / Iran : According to the Iranian state media, the country launched its first self-made satellite "Omid" ("Hope") into orbit. The Safir 2 launcher was also manufactured in the country, which aroused concern among observers as they fear that these missiles could be equipped with warheads. In contrast, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asserts peaceful intentions in the development of Iranian space travel.
