Jennifer Walinga (* 9. January 1965 in Peterborough , Ontario as Jennifer Doey ) is a former Canadian rower .

biography

Jennifer Walinga attended Peterborough Collegiate , where she played various sports such as volleyball and basketball . In 1987, Walinga began at Brock University , where she began her Bachelor of Liberal Studies . In the following year, she moved to the University of Western Ontario , where she began a teacher training course.

In the 1980s, she also began her rowing career with the Peterborough Rowing Club . In 1983 she took part in the Junior World Championships in rowing and a year later became a member of the national squad of Canadians. She participated in the World Cup for the first time in 1985 . A year later she was able to win a bronze medal at the World Championships in Nottingham in a foursome with a helmsman. At the Commonwealth Games in 1986 she won the gold medal with the Canadian team in the same discipline.

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , she started in a foursome with a helmsman and finished seventh with Heather Clarke , Tricia Smith , Lesley Thompson and Jane Tregunno .

With the Canadian foursome without a helmsman and in eighth, she became world champion in Vienna in 1991 .

Walinga was also supposed to start at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , but she had to cancel due to an injury.

After her career, Walinga taught at St. Michaels University School from 1992 to 2007 .

In 2013, Walinga was inducted into the Hall of Fame for Canadian Sports . 12 years and 233 days, each time to win the bronze medal.
