history
Megalithic graves in the municipality show a Bronze Age settlement of the Geestrücken on which Olderup lies. The original settlement, however, was north of today's village in the Arlauniederung. The place was first mentioned at the end of the 14th century.
The Romanesque stone church of Olderup was probably built around 1050 and is therefore one of the oldest churches in the Duchy of Schleswig . After a fire in 1938, it was rebuilt true to the original. The oldest inventory is the Romanesque font. The bell stack , a squat wooden bell tower that stands apart from the church and was built in the 16th century, has also been preserved in its original form. The bell is still rung by hand today.
In 1712 the Kösterhuus , which is privately owned today, was built as a schoolhouse.
After the annexation of Schleswig-Holstein by Prussia, the area of the parish of Hattstedt became a parish land municipality . It included the two villages of Arlewatt and Olderup. On April 1, 1934, the parish land parishes were dissolved, and the two rural parishes of Olderup and Arlewatt were formed from the villages of Olderups.
