Sainte-Marie ( Gascon Senta-Maria (de Varossa) ) is a French commune with 65 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the municipality of Neste Barousse .
geography
Sainte-Marie is located around 53 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department on the border with the Haute-Garonne department. The community consists of part of the village of Sainte-Marie and a few individual farms. In terms of traffic, the community is located on the D161 a few kilometers west of the N125 . The Saléchan-Siradan stop on the Montréjeau-Luchon railway line ensures public transport connections.
history
In the Middle Ages, the place was within the county of Barousse in the Armagnac region , which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. After 1790 part of the municipality came to the Haute-Garonne department. This part of Sainte-Marie, together with the Notre-Dame-des-Vignes village chapel , now belongs to the municipality of Bagiry . The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, from 1793 to 2015, Sainte-Marie was within the canton of Mauléon-Barousse . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801.
