The transmitter Dannenberg / Zernien is a transmitter of the North German Radio for VHF and TV (DVB-T) on the eastern outskirts of Zernien , directly on the federal highway 191.

description

The transmitter Dannenberg / Zernien, which went into operation in 1953, using a 258 meter high, as an antenna carrier guyed steel lattice mast . At the time of its completion, it was one of the tallest structures in northern Germany.

The transmitter supplies the Wendland , the eastern Lüneburg Heath as well as parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt with VHF radio and the NDR bouquet 1 + 2 in the TV area. As part of the shared use, the programs of the state-wide private broadcasters in Lower Saxony and the non-commercial local radio Radio ZuSa are broadcast from this mast. Due to the high geographical location and the high transmission power, it was possible at the time of the division of Germany to use the transmitter to supply large parts of the GDR with West radio.

The Dannenberg / Zernien transmitter is often incorrectly referred to as the Hohenmechtin radio transmitter or the Dannenberg radio transmitter and is often mistaken for the location of the former medium-wave transmitter Dannenberg . In contrast to this facility, which is located on the area of the municipality of Zernien, the latter was located on the Dannenberger district east of the Pisselberg district .
