Bize ( Occitan : Bisa ) is a French commune with 215 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of La Vallée de la Barousse (until 2015: canton of Saint-Laurent-de-Neste ). The inhabitants are called Bizois / Bizoises .

geography

Bize is located around 38 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department. The community consists of several hamlets and numerous scattered settlements. The Ruisseau de Nistos brook forms a natural eastern municipal boundary in places. Large areas are wooded. The highest point of the municipality is the Pic de Picharot in the southwest of the municipality. In terms of traffic, the community is located on the D75 a few kilometers south of the A64 .

Bize is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Hautaget and Nestier in the north, Montégut in the east, Seich in the southeast, Nistos in the south, Hèches in the southwest, Gazave in the west and Montsérié in the northwest.

history

As a bares de visa , Bize first appeared indirectly in Bonnefont's documents around the middle of the 13th century. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the Comminges region, which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, from 1793 to 2015, Bize was within the canton of Saint-Laurent-de-Neste . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801. In 1844 part of the community split off. The present-day Nistos community emerged from this .
