- Berlin / Germany : The Union parties demand before the testimony of the Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder ( SPD ) before the " Lies Committee of the Bundestag " the release of files by the Federal Chancellery . The Union objects to election fraud because of false statements by the SPD about the situation of the federal budget .
- Brussels / Belgium : The fees for cross-border transfers within the European Union are falling. Transfers up to an amount of 12,500 euros , which are processed using IBAN and BIC , may not be associated with higher fees than domestic transfers of the same amount.
- Ecuador : On the border with Peru , researchers are discovering the remains of a culture that is over 4,000 years old .
- Hong Kong / China : Several hundred thousand people gather for a demonstration in the Special Administrative Region on the sixth anniversary of the handover of the former British colony to the People's Republic of China. A planned new security law that would restrict civil rights has been criticized , and Hong Kong's economy is also in a downturn.
- Israel : Prime Minister Ariel Sharon adopts the "former terrorists " and Nobel Peace Prize winner of 1994, Yasser Arafat , the support, before traveling to the Gaza Strip to obtain the consent of Israel. Arafat was not granted complete freedom of movement within the Palestinian Territories .

The engineers are calling for new concepts for longer available reserves.

- Berlin / Germany : Deutsche Bahn is returning to the old Bahncard . The fare reduction for owners should be 50% again.
- Coburg / Germany : A teacher is shot while an eighth grader runs amok . The perpetrator then shoots himself. The teacher is not in mortal danger at the end of the day.
- Prague / Czech Republic : The International Olympic Committee announced that Vancouver in Canada , the 2010 Winter Olympics will host.
- Strasbourg / France : The member of the European Union parliament Martin Schulz ( SPD ) criticizes Italy's head of government Silvio Berlusconi for negative statements from the mouth of his minister Umberto Bossi about African migrants . Berlusconi replied that he would propose Schulz “for the Kapo ” in a film about concentration camps that was currently in progress in Italy.
- Uganda : For the Bundeswehr a mission starts in the conflict in the Republic of Congo . From Uganda, Germany will provide logistical support to troops from member states of the European Union operating in the Republic of the Congo until September 1st .

- Baghdad / Iraq : For the first time, the gold treasure of Nimrud from the 9th century BC stored in the National Museum is presented to the public . Chr. Presented.
- Liberia : US President George W. Bush's threat against Liberia's President Charles Taylor that he would send elite soldiers to the civil war country prompted Taylor to offer to leave the country by October at the latest. He added that this would not end the fighting.
- Munich / Germany : The French director Marceline Loridan-Ivens is awarded the Bernhard Wicki Film Prize for her autobiographical film Birkenau and Rosenfeld .
- Paris / France : The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization includes the Bamiyan Valley in Afghanistan and the ancient Assyrian capital Aššur in Iraq on its list of endangered world cultural heritage .

- Bremen / Germany : The deputies of citizenship select Henning Scherf ( SPD ) again for mayor of country Bremen . And the town itself Scherf took over this office in 1995 by his party colleague Klaus Wedemeier .
- Paris / France : The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization declares a further 24 cultural and natural sites to be World Heritage , including the Ticino massif of Monte San Giorgio . This means that 754 sites worldwide are particularly worthy of protection.
- Quetta / Pakistan : Armed attackers break into a Shiite mosque and kill at least 32 people and injure 52 others.
- Sulaimaniyya / Iraq : US soldiers of the 173rd Airborne Brigade arrest several members of the Turkish armed forces in northern Iraq . They are taken away for interrogation with bags over their heads .

- Ankara / Turkey : More than 120 people are injured in the explosion of a gas station in the Turkish capital.
- Kuwait City / Kuwait : The parliamentary elections are taking place.
- London / United Kingdom : The American defending champion Serena Williams wins the women's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships in tennis against her sister Venus Williams .
- Moscow / Russia : At least 15 people are killed when a bomb explodes in the entrance area of the Tushino airfield . An open-air concert will take place on the airfield at this time.

- Ajaccio / France : The Corsicans are voting in a referendum against a limited autonomy for the island. 51% reject the proposals drawn up by the conservative government in Paris .
- Bochum , Düsseldorf / Germany : The coalition crisis in North Rhine-Westphalia ends when the SPD and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen at special party conferences in Bochum and Düsseldorf confirm a compromise paper that has been negotiated in recent weeks.
- London / United Kingdom : Roger Federer from Switzerland wins the men's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships in tennis by beating Mark Philippoussis from Argentina in three sets.
- Mexico City / Mexico : The House of Representatives elections take place.
- Munich / Germany : The Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber ( CSU ) is positive about the plans of the red-green federal government for a tax reform .
- Nouakchott / Mauritania : Sghaïr Ould M'Bareck is appointed Prime Minister of Mauritania.

- Singapore / Singapore: The 29-year-old Siamese twin sisters Ladan and Laleh Bijani died of circulatory failure as a result of the high blood loss during the operation on the same day their heads were separated .
- Washington, DC / United States : The White House officially confirms the popular belief that the war against Iraq was also founded on misinformation. Government circles are said to have known about it for months, US President George W. Bush is not to blame.

- Hamburg / Germany : The Internet - Search engine Google is launching a German-language news portal whose contents are automatically generated from more than 700 news sources. Google would like to offer selective portals of this type in the official languages of almost all countries in the world. It has not yet been decided whether there will also be versions with an Austrian and a Swiss focus.
- Sudan : A Boeing 737 crashes on the Red Sea coast shortly after taking off from Bur Sudan . 116 people on board are killed. A two-year-old child initially survived the accident, but succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon.

Observers see the statements as an attempt to bind the Italian people more closely to Berlusconi through populism .
- Dhaka / Bangladesh : The overloaded MV Nasrin-1 ferry with more than 750 people on board sinks. Only 150 people manage to rescue them.
- Japan : 800,000 computers are authorities on open source - operating system Linux changed.
- Recklinghausen / Germany : The circumstances of the fatal parachute jump of the former German Vice Chancellor Jürgen Möllemann ( FDP ) remain unclear. Whether it was a suicide or an accident remains “completely open”, according to the chief public prosecutor Wolfgang Reinicke. Only external negligence is excluded.

- Maputo / Mozambique : The member states of the African Union are establishing a military reaction force to force a swift end to armed conflicts on the continent, and they also support the idea of an African peace and security council modeled on the United Nations .
- Palma de Mallorca / Spain : The government of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands presents a bill to abolish the environmental tax on the islands. The regional parliament should vote on it in the autumn.

- Salzburg / Austria : A 250-kg aircraft bomb from World War II explodes while attempting to defuse it , killing two people.
- Santa Monica / United States : An 86 year old man drives into a street market at high speed. Eight market visitors are killed and another 15 seriously injured.
- São Tomé / São Tomé and Príncipe : One day after the coup against the government, the new rulers announce new elections.
- Seoul / South Korea : Shots are fired at the border between North and South Korea. The South Korean side later reported that there were no injuries, the North Korean side is not known to comment.

- Frankfurt am Main / Germany : Klaus Zwickel is stepping down from the chairmanship of the IG Metall trade union a few weeks before the end of his ten-year term .
- Mallorca / Spain : The power grid collapses in the evening due to overload. Electricity does not flow again until after twelve hours.

- Corsica , Var / France : In the Moors massif and on Corsica, forest fires claim five lives. In the Var département, the flames destroyed around 20,000 hectares of forest this month .

- Puebla / Mexico : A pastel-colored VW Beetle is the last product in the Última Edición series to roll off the production line and marks the end of 80 years of production of around 21.5 million copies of the model, which was discontinued in Germany in 1978. A place in the Wolfsburg collection of Volkswagen AG has been reserved for the last of its kind .

- Vatican City : On the occasion of the opening of marriage to homosexuals in Canada's province of Ontario , the Holy See speaks out against the legalization of same-sex marriages and advises lawyers of Catholic faith that such efforts should be answered with resistance. The Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien and his designated successor, Paul Martin , both Catholics emphasize later in the day once again, that the separation of church and state also applies in this matter.
