Doina Ignat
Doina Ignat (born December 20, 1968 in Miorcani , Botoșani district ) is a former Romanian rower . With four Olympic gold medals and one silver medal, she is one of the most successful rowers.
Career
Doina Ignat attended a Lyceum in Botoșani when she was discovered for rowing by Nicolae Gioga at the age of 15. Ignat moved to the Romanian capital, where she started for Steaua Bucharest in 1984 . She later studied sports at the University of George Bacovia Bacau .
In 1986 Ignat appeared for the first time internationally when she finished fifth in the single at the Junior World Championships in Račice u Štětí . She won her first medal at the 1991 World Rowing Championships in Vienna , when she took bronze with the Romanian double scull.
At the Olympic Games in 1992 , the Romanian quadruple won silver behind the German boat. Constanța Pipotă , Veronica Cochela and Doina Ignat from the double four switched to the Romanian eighth in 1993 and became world champions with this boat in 1993. Cochela and Ignat finished third in the 1994 world championship in eighth and fourth in the four without a helmsman and in 1995 runner-up in eighth. Together with Anca Tănase , Doina Ignat came in sixth place at the 1995 World Championships in Tampere in a double without a helmsman .
In 1996 the Romanian eighth won Olympic gold in Atlanta with the line-up Anca Tănase, Veronica Cochela, Liliana Gafencu , Doina Spîrcu , Ioana Olteanu , Elisabeta Lipă , Mărioara Popescu , Doina Ignat and helmsman Elena Georgescu . Ignat won the world championship title in 1997, 1998 and 1999 with the eighth team, which remained largely the same. In 1997 she was runner-up in the four-man championship and in 1998 third in the double scull with Ioana Olteanu. At the 1999 World Championships, Ignat and Olteanu missed the A-final in the same discipline and only came in a disappointing tenth place.
In 2000, Doina Ignat Steaua left after 16 years of club membership and moved to Dinamo Bucharest .
In 2000 , the Romanian eighth won gold again at the Olympic Games, with Georgeta Damian , Viorica Susanu , Ioana Olteanu, Veronica Cochela, Elisabeta Lipă, Maria Magdalena Dumitrache , Liliana Gafencu, Doina Ignat, Elena Georgescu. Together with Georgeta Damian, Ignat also won gold in a two-man without a helmsman . After the Olympic Games in Sydney Ignat took a break from competition and 2001. Mother was a girl. In 2002 she returned to Snagov and resumed rowing training.
At the 2003 World Cup, Ignat was back in the Romanian eighth and was runner-up behind the German boat. In 2004 , the Romanian eighth won Olympic gold for the third time in a row. Gafencu, Georgescu, Lipă and Ignat were there for the third time, Susanu and Damian for the second time, Rodica Florea , Aurica Bărăscu and Ioana Papuc won eighth gold for the first time.
In 2007 the Romanian eighth was again runner-up with Ignat. At the European Rowing Championships 2007 in Poznan , the title was also won. In 2008 Ignat won her last Olympic medal, a bronze one, with the Romanian eighth. In September 2008, she defended the title at the European Championships with the Romanian eighth and then withdrew from active competitive sport.
Doina Ignat has been in charge of the four sports departments of rowing, fencing , apparatus gymnastics and canoe racing at Dinamo Bucharest since 2009 .
Awards
Doina Ignat was awarded the Order of Loyalty to the rank of commander in 2000. In August 2008 she received the Order of Merit "Meritul sportiv" III from President Traian Băsescu . Class with two stripes.
