The Serengeti Festival was an international music festival that took place annually in Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock from 2006 to 2015 and has been held on a meadow at the Zoo Safaripark since 2011 . After around 15,000 visitors in 2011, around 12,000 spectators came in each of the years 2012 and 2013.
history
From 2006 to 2010 the festival took place in an open space behind the city's indoor swimming pool. Due to a lack of space, the plan arose to move to a site at the Zoo Safaripark. However, this plan could only be realized in 2011, so that a separate campground has been available in the immediate vicinity of the festival area since then. In 2013 this offered space for around 5,000 campers. Access to the zoo safari park with its rides and animals has also been part of the festival concept since the move. The 7th edition of the festival in 2012 took place over 3 days for the first time. In addition, there have been 2 stages since then. In this way, the breaks on the main stage could be bridged by appearing on a smaller tent stage. The festival partners included a. the radio station 1LIVE and the WDR Rockpalast .
In July 2015, the organizers announced that the festival would take place for the last time in 2015. The escalating development in the festival market was named as the reason.
WDR Rockpalast
In 2013 the Serengeti Festival collaborated with the WDR Rockpalast for the first time . On the weekend of July 19-21, 2013, the WDR broadcast the performances of the Serengeti Festival main stage. Among other things, the appearances of Chase & Status , Skunk Anansie and the Broilers were broadcast on German television. In 2014 the WDR Rockpalast recorded concerts of the festival and broadcast parts of them at a later date.
