About this picture

Godendorf is a municipality in the south of the Mecklenburg Lake District in southern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Neustrelitz-Land Office , based in the non-official city of Neustrelitz .

geography

Bridge over the Mühlenbach in the Schneidemühle district

The small community of Godendorf is located on the lake of the same name in a very forest and lake-rich area (129 hectares of water and 860 hectares of forest) in the southeastern part of the Mecklenburg Lake District and in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park . Godendorf is about 14 kilometers from Neustrelitz and borders the state of Brandenburg in the south .

In addition to the town of Godendorf, Godendorf also includes the districts Düsterförde, paper mill, tar furnace and cutting mill. There are numerous weekend houses, especially in the districts of Teerofen and Schneidemühle. The lake area continues south of Godendorf in the Uckermärkische Seen nature park .

Godendorf is surrounded by the neighboring communities Neustrelitz in the north, Wokuhl-Dabelow in the east, Fürstenberg / Havel in the south, Priepert in the southwest and Wesenberg in the west.

The Godendorfer Mühlenbach once drove five water mills in the municipality.

politics

The administration of the municipality is taken care of by the Neustrelitz-Land office, the political decision-making body is the municipal council . The only organized party besides the local electoral community is the alternative for Germany ; in the local elections on May 25, 2014 , it achieved its best result in the country with 33.7%. The composition of the municipal council has since been as follows:

Various properties in the municipal area formed supraregional meeting points for the neo-Nazi spectrum in the 2000s .

The local accommodation for asylum seekers became the target of an attempted arson attack shortly before the 4th of Advent 2015 .

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE GODENDORF * LANDKREIS MECKLENBURGISCHE SEENPLATTE".

Infrastructure

The closest schools that can be reached are in Neustrelitz. There was once a small village school in the Teerofen district, which is now used as a cultural space and community office.

The district of Düsterförde is located directly on the federal highway 96 from Berlin to Neubrandenburg , the other districts can be reached by a state road that branches off at Düsterförde . In addition, Düsterförde is close to the Berlin – Stralsund railway line , on which a train station existed from 1878 - a little away from the Düsterförde district. This was served every two hours from the timing in 1993 until the abandonment of the stop in 1996.

The connection to Neustrelitz and Strelitz-Alt is the week with the buses of MVVG ensured (Bus 640). During the school holidays, the offer is limited to individual days of the week.
