The three- cushion world cup 2004/5 was the fifth and last UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 18th year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from August 29th to September 5th 2004 in this discipline of carom billiards in Antwerp . It was the 17th three-cushion World Cup tournament in Belgium.
history
Before the last World Cup tournament of the year, no fewer than four players still had a chance of winning the overall World Cup. The leader in the ranking Torbjörn Blomdahl had the best . But against a great Christian Rudolph , the tournament was over in round one. It was no different for Frédéric Caudron . In an average game he was defeated by the Japanese Tatsuo Arai. For Semih Saygıner round one started with a Nevenkrimi. Victory hung by a thread against the Korean Kim Kyung-roul , who was getting better and better . Two sets, including the fifth, ended with extremely close 15:14 set wins. That meant that only Saygıner and Daniel Sánchez had realistic chances of winning the title. They both made it to the semi-finals and had two opponents, Dick Jaspers and Martin Horn, who played at a very high level in this tournament. Saygıner and Sánchez won two hard-fought five-set matches. In the high-class final, the Spaniard prevailed after a 1: 2 set deficit with 3: 2 sets and was overall World Cup winner 2004. It was his fifth World Cup victory.

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 168 . Vienna October 2004, p. 12-17 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
