The three- cushion world cup 2014/1 was the first UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 28th year of the three-cushion world cup. It took place from February 10-16, 2014 in Istanbul , Turkey . After 2006 another tournament took place in Istanbul on the Bosporus.
The three-cushion World Cup year 2014 started with some excellent performances in the qualifying rounds. The Koreans Seo Hyun-min and Heo Jung-han deserve special mention. Seo was only eliminated unbeaten in the 3rd qualifying round against Heo with 1.682 GD. Heo failed only in the 1/16 final in the penalty against the later finalist Choi Sung-won and also played a strong GD with 1.512. The eight German participants also showed some strong performances. Christian Rudolph , Johann Schirmbrand and Orhan Erogul made it to the final qualifying round. Christian Rudolph even came into the main field of the best 32 as a lucky loser . Here he only failed on the later third Kim Kyung-roul . But other top favorites were no different in the knockout round, the ex-world champions Dick Jaspers and Torbjörn Blomdahl also failed in the first round.
In contrast, six Koreans reached the round of 16. It was the best World Cup for the Asians. There were three more in the semifinals. Except for Eddy Merckx , it was a Korean championship. Choi was able to eliminate the previously strong Merckx and moved into the final with Cho Jae-ho, who knocked out Kim in 15 shots with 40:29. This was relatively even with advantages for Choi, who knocked out the game in the 25th recording with 40:32. But Cho still had the second push. He managed to add the eight points, with a fox (a lucky collision) coming to his aid. Choi put up two points in extra time. Cho scored three points, becoming the fourth Korean to win a World Cup.
A lot has changed in the tournament mode since 2013. The rate system was abolished because the match time could not be calculated. Matches could last between three and five sets. Good timing was therefore not possible. The game distances were set at 30 points in the pre-qualifying rounds and 40 points in the main qualification and in the knockout games. A tie is possible in the qualifying rounds. In the knockout round, overtime is played in the event of a tie. Each of the two players starts with the initial push. Whoever scores more points wins the match. If there is also a tie in extra time, the kick starts again until a winner is determined. The shot clock was set to 40 seconds wildcards, there are only two for the host and one each for the two of the three associations CPB , ACBC and CEB , in which the World Cup does not take place.
Four qualifying rounds are played. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners and the four best runners-up qualify for the final round. The main tournament is played with 32 participants.
In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:
The first 12 players in the world rankings and the wildcard players automatically took part as players in the tournament in the knockout round. The first four of the world rankings are placed in positions 1, 16, 8 and 9.
Wildcard players:
1 × CPB : Carlos Campino
1 × ACBC : O Takeshima
2 × Organizing host: Murat Naci Çoklu , Tolgahan Kiraz

Qualifying round
For the sake of clarity, qualification rounds 1, 2 and 3 are not shown. These can be looked up under the links at the UMB . In the last (4th) qualifying round, up to 40 points are played in groups A – L with 3 players each. The top four and the four best runners-up go to the final round of the best 32. In the event of a tie, the better GD applies .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the " Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer. From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
