The three- cushion world cup 2016/3 was the third UMB / ACBC world cup tournament in the 30th year of the three- cushion world cup. It took place from May 16-22, 2016 in Ho Chi Minh City , Vietnam . It was the second three-cushion world cup tournament, a form of carom billiards , in Vietnam.

history

The highlight of the first round in the knockout phase was the match between world number two Daniel Sánchez and Greek champion Nikos Polychronopoulos . With a score of 26:18 in the tenth shot for Sánchez, Polychronopoulos ended the match with a 22nd series. Sanchez was only able to counter with two points in the follow-up and was eliminated in the third world cup tournament in 2016 for the third time in the first round. This means that he can no longer defend his title as the overall World Cup winner in 2015. With this victory, Nikos Polychronopoulos was among the top twelve in the world rankings and made it to the quarter-finals. He is therefore among the seeded players for the next World Cup, which gives a great financial advantage. There was also a nerve game to survive for the world number three Dick Jaspers . Only in the extension he was able to prevail against the Vietnamese Ma Minh Cam with 3-1. In the semifinals, too, he faced a Vietnamese player. In a strong game he won with 40:30 in only 14 shots. In the final against Frédéric Caudron , however, he was clearly the second winner. With this victory, Caudron again took the lead in the world rankings.

Tournament mode

A lot has changed in the tournament mode since 2013. The rate system was abolished because the match time could not be calculated. Matches could last between three and five sets. Good timing was therefore not possible. The game distances were set at 30 points in the pre-qualifying rounds and 40 points in the main qualification and in the knockout games. A tie is possible in the qualifying rounds. In the knockout round, overtime is played in the event of a tie. Each of the two players starts with the initial push. Whoever scores more points wins the match. If there is also a tie in extra time, the kick starts again until a winner is determined. The shot clock was shortened to 40 seconds. Each player can take two extra times per match . This increases the peak time by 40 seconds. There are only two wildcards for the organizer and one each for three of the four associations CPB , ACBC , CEB and ACC in which the World Cup does not take place.

Four qualifying rounds are played. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners and the three best runners-up qualify for the final round. The main tournament is played with 32 participants.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. GD = general average
  3. HS = maximum series

Seeded players and wild cards

The first 12 players in the world rankings and the wildcard players automatically took part as players in the tournament in the knockout round. The first four of the world rankings are placed in positions 1, 16, 8 and 9.
