Prokopov (German Prokopsdorf ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located nine kilometers southeast of the town of Moravské Budějovice and belongs to the Okres Znojmo .

geography

Prokopov is located on a hill between the valleys of the Nedveka and Jevišovka in the South Moravian Thaya-Schwarza valley basin . To the north-west of the village lies the 416 m high hill "Za Ovčírnou", on which a Neolithic fortress stood.

Neighboring towns are Hostim in the north, Jiřice u Moravských Budějovic in the east, Boskovštejn in the south-east, Grešlové Mýto in the south, Blanné in the south-west, Blížkovice in the west, and Vesce and Zvěrkovice in the north-west.

history

Archaeological finds show that the place was settled in the Neolithic and Copper Age , on the hill "Za Ovčírnou" there was an early fortification.

However, the actual history of the place does not begin until 1789. After the Counts of Gatterburg had acquired the rule of Hösting , Prokop von Gatterburg founded the town of Nová Ves / Neudorf south of Hösting in 1789, which nine years later, after his death, was nicknamed Prokopov / Prokopsdorf. Prokopsdorf shared the history of the Hösting rule, which Anton Count Meraviglia acquired in 1798 with the associated villages of Blann , Boskowstein , Gröschlmaut , Irschitz , Prokopsdorf, Roskosch and Zerkowitz . In 1885 the official name was changed from Nová Ves to Prokopov.
