Saint-Jean ( Occitan : Sant Joan lo Vièlh ) is a French commune with 10,694 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Toulouse and the Canton of Toulouse-9 . The inhabitants are called Saint-Jeannais .

geography

The Sausse flows on the southern edge of the municipality . Saint-Jean is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Geniès-Bellevue in the north, Rouffiac-Tolosan in the east, Montrabé in the south and L'Union in the west.

history

The history of the place begins with the Order of Malta in the 12th century at the latest, when the knights established a priory here in the place Estaquebiau . In the meantime, the place was named Saint-Jean de Kyrie-Eleison during the revolutionary times (from 1790). Since 1868 the name has only been Saint-Jean .
