Before submitting a request, please read the following:

Requesting a Biography: Before placing a request for a biography, make certain that the person meets the notability requirements for inclusion in Wikipedia (see notability criteria). Why do you want to know about them? Why would anyone else want to know about them? Also, if you are requesting an article on a living person, please see Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people and neutral point of view.

To make a new request, add the person's name under their profession or nation (or in both categories). Place it in alphabetical order by the person's last name. If an appropriate nation or professional category is not listed, then one should be created -- or the requested name can be added to the alphabetical listings at the bottom of this page.

Information to include:

  • Name - be certain of the spelling
  • Date requested - so that older requests can be more easily tracked.
  • Identifying information -- There are lots of James Smiths in the world; which one are you asking about -- the Scottish architect, the American rapper, or who?
  • Notability -- if it isn't already obvious from the identifying information, describe precisely what makes them notable. Be concise.

example:

  • Jeremiah V. Anonymouse - (req 2008-06-23) Canadian astronaut, first person to live on Mars, wrote bestseller Hey, Where is Everybody?.

IMPORTANT NOTE
  • Any requested name which fails to include identifying information or notabiity will be moved to the "No Notability or Questionable Notability" category, and subsequently deleted.

Unorganized / Things to-do

The lists below were grabbed from other organizational schemes - it appears many of them were integrated with the alphabetical lists, however not all of them made the transition (see Agnew) - and none of the other locations was redirected here, nor where those old requests deleted from those pages.

These need to be integrated into the alphabetical list, double-checked, and then the professions need to be checked and broken out into the professions, then the professions not stored on this page need to be moved to their appropriate pages. Work in progress.

If you find a non-person in here, please don't simply delete it, place it at the bottom to be put back into the other request pages, or place it in the correct request page yourself.

Then, work on profession pages - and pull stuff from the bottom of each alphabetical list. Grab links to natural science, biz, mat, social sciences, etc, and make cross-linked and pretty

Link up potential foreign language articles under the appropriate language, then check to see if those articles exist, if they do not, then strike-thru the link, but leave it, so that people can see that you checked for information even if you couldn't translate it.

Add (FirstName LastName) alternatives to all (FirstName MiddleInitial LastName) requests - and then go check those disambig pages, a number of these requests are already done, but under a slightly different name, if we can find them. In the history see Ballard (removed 2008-02-27). Double check that all F M L have periods on the middle initial. Ditto for people with "fun" aliases in their names. Wackhead Simpson was already done, but had either " instead of ' in his article title name.

Anthropologists is still a major mess. A *lot* of potential requests got dumped on us, still working on cleaning up the names with correct spaces, filling in missing punctuation, and the like. Found some articles by filling in the first/last names, and alternative spellings - but so far I'm only to the letter D in adding those links, much less checking them to see if they're going to places that we're interested (re: these requests). And I've left that section in the finished area. Dunno if that's a good idea.

No Notability or Questionable Notability

Requests moved from the above categories that do not meet the notability guidelines. Explain the reason for their non-notability. These entries are given several weeks to explain why this person is notable, and should be kept. These names are deleted after one month. (please label your actions, so people can find it in the history).
