The three- cushion world cup 2015/1 was the first UMB / ACC world cup tournament in the 29th year of the three-cushion world cup. It took place from March 29 to April 4, 2015 in Luxor , Egypt . It was the second World Cup tournament in Luxor.

history

For the first time in the 29-year history of the World Cup, a Korean, Choi Sung-won, entered a world cup tournament as the leader of the world racing list. In the quarterfinals, however, he had to admit defeat to his compatriot, four-time junior world champion Kim Haeng-jik . Kim is currently with the Korean Army and is rarely allowed to leave the country. In Luxor, Kim, who celebrated his 23rd birthday in Luxor, showed his class and played himself with great performances until the final. Here his opponent was the Dutchman Dick Jaspers , who already played his 113th World Cup. Jaspers showed fantastic three-cushion billiards in the final. In just eight shots he narrowly missed the current world record, which stands at seven shots. It was his 21st World Cup victory. For Kim, after his title at the Asian Cup, it was his biggest international success to date in the senior sector.

Tournament mode

A lot has changed in the tournament mode since 2013. The rate system was abolished because the match time could not be calculated. Matches could last between three and five sets. Good timing was therefore not possible. The game distances were set at 30 points in the pre-qualifying rounds and 40 points in the main qualification and in the knockout games. A tie is possible in the qualifying rounds. In the knockout round, overtime is played in the event of a tie. Each of the two players starts with the initial push. Whoever scores more points wins the match. If it is also a tie in extra time, the kick starts again until a winner is determined. The shot clock was on 40 seconds. There are only two wildcards for the organizer and one each for the three of the four associations CPB , ACBC , CEB and ACC , in which the World Cup does not take place.

Four qualifying rounds are played. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners and the three best runners-up qualify for the final round. The main tournament is played with 32 participants.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

1. MP = match points
2. GD = general average
3. HS = maximum series

The first 12 players in the world rankings and the wildcard players automatically took part as players in the tournament in the knockout round. The first four of the world rankings are placed in positions 1, 16, 8 and 9.

Qualifying round

In the last (4th) qualifying round, 40 points are played in groups A – L with three players each. The top four and the four best runners-up go to the final round of the best 32. In the event of a tie, the better GD applies .
