- Bern / Switzerland : The Federal Office for Information Technology and Telecommunications is founded. The deputy director of the previous authority, the Federal Office for Information Technology, Marius Redli is appointed director.
- Bonn / Germany : Johannes Rau is sworn in as the successor to Roman Herzog as the German Federal President . He prevailed against Dagmar Schipanski and Uta Ranke-Heinemann in the election on May 23 .
- Bonn / Germany : Based on the capital city resolution of 1991, the last session of the German Bundestag takes place in Bonn in the new plenary building of the Bundestag after around 50 years . After the summer break, Parliament will continue its work in the Berlin Reichstag building .
- Edinburgh / United Kingdom : In Scotland Edinburgh opened Queen Elizabeth II. The first regional parliament in the UK.
- Helsinki / Finland : Finland takes over the presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first time from Germany . The office of head of government of the EC is given to Paavo Lipponen .

- Washington, DC / United States : Lawrence Summers takes over from Robert Rubin as head of the United States Treasury .
Saturday 3rd July 1999
- Paris / France : Italy wins the 31st European Basketball Championship . Spain won the silver medal, the Yugoslav team finished third .
- United States : Billy Mitchell sets a record in the arcade game Pac-Man with 3,333,360 points . He completes 255 levels, collects all bonuses and eats every blue ghost without ever being eaten himself. The performance is considered a "perfect game".
Sunday 4th July 1999
- Blanchardstown / Ireland : The member of the girl group Spice Girls Victoria Adams marries the football player David Beckham in camera . The couple sold the rights to their wedding photos to OK! Since Diana, Princess of Wales died in 1997, Adams-Beckham has become a favorite subject of the tabloid media.
- Islamabad / Pakistan : At the mediation of the President of the United States Bill Clinton , the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif declares himself ready to withdraw the Pakistani military units that have invaded the Indian part of Kashmir .
- London / United Kingdom : Pete Sampras from the USA wins the final in the men's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships in tennis against his compatriot Andre Agassi in three sets. It is Sampras' sixth tournament win in seven years. The American Lindsay Davenport wins the women's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships in tennis by beating Steffi Graf from Germany in the final .
- Nebra / Germany : On the Mittelberg near the town of Nebra in Saxony-Anhalt, two robbers find the “ Nebra Sky Disc ”, which is considered to be the world's oldest concrete representation of the sky.
- Sofia / Bulgaria : In the country that has been going through a severe banking and currency crisis for several years , the reformed, so-called “fourth” lev is pegged to the German mark as the new national currency at a ratio of 1: 1 . The exchange of coins and notes of the “third” lev will begin on July 6th.
- Washington, DC / United States : Since Osama bin Laden , for whose capture the US authorities offered a reward of 5 million US dollars on November 4, 1998 , is still protected by the radical Taliban movement in Afghanistan , the US President Bill Clinton 's seizure of Taliban's property. Bin Laden is seen as the mastermind behind the attacks on the US embassies in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi in August 1998.

- Banjul / Gambia : The liberal- intent daily newspaper The Independent from the pro-government publisher The Daily Observer appears for the first time.
- Riga / Latvia : Prime Minister Vilis Krištopans suffers defeat in a vote of no confidence .
Tuesday July 6, 1999
- Bosnia-Herzegovina : SFOR troops arrest Radoslav Brđanin of the Serbian Democratic Party , who played a leading role in the planned establishment of an “ethnically pure” state in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and transfer him to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague .
- Tel Aviv / Israel : The government of Benjamin Netanyahu is replaced by a government under Ehud Barak . The change of government is the result of the Knesset election on May 17th .

- Bremen / Germany : The deputies of citizenship select Henning Scherf ( SPD ) for a second term of office for mayor of the state of Bremen and the city itself.
- Riga / Latvia : The independent politician Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga is elected as the successor of Guntis Ulmanis as the new President of Latvia.

- United Kingdom : Joanne K. Rowling is publishing the third volume of her Harry Potter book series with an initial print run of 240,000 copies . It is titled Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban .
Friday 9th July 1999
- Bishkek / Kyrgyzstan : Felix Kulow founds the pro-Russian party Ar-Namys ( German “ Dignity ” ).
- Los Angeles County / United States : Universal Pictures is releasing the first part of the American Pie film series .
- Thimphu / Bhutan : Sangay Ngedup becomes Prime Minister.
Saturday 10th July 1999
- Berlin / Germany : Ten years after the first registration of a political demonstration under the name Loveparade , well over a million ravers and other adventure seekers took part in the Loveparade 1999, a higher figure than ever before.
- Pasadena / United States : In the final of the 3rd Women's World Cup , the US national team beats the Chinese selection 5-4 on penalties in front of 90,185 spectators.
Monday July 12, 1999
- Berlin / Germany : The Federal Soil Protection and Contaminated Sites Ordinance is issued. It comes into force five days later and specifies how to deal with contaminated sites and suspected contaminated sites .
- Berlin / Germany : The apprenticeship information electronics technician is introduced.
- Brussels / Belgium : The Verhofstadt government under Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt replaces the previous Dehaene II government and is named "Rainbow Coalition" based on the mixture of blue, red and green.

- Paris / France : The Bombardier Challenger 300 is presented at the Paris Air Show under the name Bombardier Continental .
- Tehran / Iran : In Tehran, demonstrators attack the Ministry of the Interior in the course of the Iranian student protests . President Mohammad Chātami then banned further protests and declared that the demonstrations were "directed against the foundations of the Islamic Republic".

- Leipzig / Germany : The city decides to renovate the 91 m high monument in memory of the Battle of the Nations . According to estimates, the work on the building, which was inaugurated in 1913, will take about ten years.
- New York / United States : In Madison Square Garden , the home ground of the New York Liberty , the first WNBA All-Star game in basketball takes place. The Western Conference team wins 79:61 against the Eastern Conference team in front of sold-out stands .
- Port Moresby / Papua New Guinea : Parliament elects Mekere Morauta (People's Democratic Movement) as Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea .

- Berlin / Germany : The Bundestag changes the law on German citizenship . Germany no longer requires citizens of a member state of the European Union to give up their previous citizenship before naturalization if the member state concerned proceeds in the same way when naturalizing citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany.
- Kathmandu / Nepal : The airline Skyline Airways takes to flight operations. The company has only one machine, a DHC-6 Twin Otter 300.

- Atlantic / United States : John F. Kennedy jr. crashes on a self-controlled flight to Martha's Vineyard together with his wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and their sister Lauren shortly before reaching the destination airport over the Atlantic .
- Riga / Latvia : Andris Šķēle takes over the post of Prime Minister of Latvia for the second time .
Saturday 17th July 1999
- Leverkusen / Germany : Defending champion Bayern Munich wins the fourth edition of the DFB League Cup . The game against Werder Bremen takes place in the BayArena in front of 13,000 spectators and ends 2: 1.
- London / United Kingdom : The weekly magazine The Economist publishes a picture of Ahmad Batebi holding up a t-shirt soaked in the blood of a demonstrator on the cover. The Iranian students make the cover a symbol of their resistance.
- Neustadt an der Waldnaab / Germany : The mother Anne's Church in Neustadt an der Waldnaab is after three years of extensive renovations with a volume of 1.5 million German marks reopened.

- Asunción / Paraguay : In the final of the 39th Copa América , the Brazilian national soccer team defended their title and won 3-0 against record title holder Uruguay .
- Mauna Kea / United States : With the help of the 3.6 m Canada France Hawaii telescope on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, a team discovers the irregular moons of the planet Uranus : Setebos , Stephano and Prospero .
- Niamey / Niger : In a referendum, the Nigerien people approve a constitution based on the French model as a semi-presidential system with direct election of the president (every five years). According to this constitution, which was suspended by the military junta on February 19, 2010 , Niger has a semi-presidential system of government .

- Graz / Austria : The construction of about 10 km through the hills of Steinberg's and Plabutschs leading on the western outskirts of Graz Plabutsch tunnel begins.
- Haiger / Germany : The Hellertalbahn GmbH is founded. The railway company operates local rail passenger transport on the Betzdorf – Haiger line .

- London / United Kingdom : The gold price in London reached a low of 252.80 US dollars per troy ounce . Adjusted for inflation, the value is $ 387.2.
- Markkleeberg / Germany : The northern part of the Espenhain open-cast lignite mine will be flooded from today. This is how the Markkleeberger See is to be created.
- Beijing / China : After seven years of growing popularity, the government installs a nationwide crackdown on the new religious movement Falun Gong . A series of petitions to official bodies and the sit-in strike by 10,000 supporters in Zhongnanhai on April 25 are believed to be the reason for the actions.
- Strasbourg / France : The Technical Group of Independent MEPs (TDI) is created following the 1999 European elections . The reason given by the 29 members of the Alleanza Nazionale , Lista Emma Bonino , Lega Nord , Fiamma Tricolore , Euskal Herritarrok, as well as the Front National and the Vlaams Blok is the advantages of a group status in the European Parliament .

- New York / USA : Steve Jobs is in a keynote presentation at the fair Macworld Conference & Expo , the Apple - Notebook " iBook " before.

- Beijing / China : After the Chinese government arrested over 1,000 active Falun Gong members two days earlier , it has officially banned this new religious movement . 10,000 members are interned in soccer stadiums, and Falun Gong books were confiscated and destroyed in nationwide house searches.
- Ulaanbaatar / Mongolia : Njam-Osoryn Tujaa takes over the post of Prime Minister of Mongolia from Dschanlawyn Narantsatsralt . He had to resign because of a controversial letter to the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia about the Mongolian-Russian copper-molybdenum ore enrichment plant.

- Egmond aan Zee / Netherlands : A bronze statue is erected for Jaepie-Jaepie from the sea rescue station in Egmond aan Zee in North Holland . He is said to have saved 170 lives in the course of his 44 years of service.
- Rabat / Morocco : Mohammed VI. a few hours after the death of his father Hassan II ascends the throne . He wants to fight against the grievances of his country B. Poverty and Corruption , take action and promote the enforcement of human rights in Morocco more.

- Arkhangelsk / Russia : The after Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren called satellite Astrid together with a Russian satellite navigation type Zikada by a Russian Cosmos-3M - carrier rocket from the Russian Plesetsk cosmodrome launched and promoted in approximately 1,000 km altitude.
- Füssen / Germany , Vils / Austria : The 1,284 m long border tunnel Füssen is opened for car traffic.

- Paris / France : Lance Armstrong wins for the first time, and as a second American , the cycling tour Tour de France .
Tuesday July 27, 1999
- Luxemburg / Luxemburg : The Frenchman Jacques Pêcheur surprises Gaston Glock , the founder of the Austrian arms production company Glock GmbH , in the underground car park of an office complex and tries to kill him with a hammer. Pêcheur's client is Charles Ewert from Luxembourg, known as "Panama-Charly", who had access to Glock's business assets for years.
- Saxeten / Switzerland : A 2 m high flash flood hit a canyoning group in the rocky gorge of the Saxetbach and kills everyone. This group consists of 21 tourists from Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa and Switzerland. This accident claims the highest number of fatalities in canyoning so far.

- Guadalajara / Mexico : Lothar Matthäus scores a goal for the German national soccer team at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Mexico against New Zealand and at 38 years and 128 days is the oldest goalscorer in the history of the selection.
- Orbit : The spacemen Viktor Afanassjew and Sergei Avdejew are in space for 5 hours and 22 minutes in order to dismantle the communication antennas of Mir .

- Avarua / Cook Islands : Joe Williams replaces his party colleague Geoffrey Henry as Prime Minister and Finance Minister of the Cook Islands.
- Solar system : The space probe Deep Space 1 passes the asteroid (9969) Braille at a distance of only 26 km. A large amount of data is obtained, but only a few images and these from a great distance due to incorrect camera alignment.
