Rohrbach is a municipality in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Kirchberg (Hunsrück) community . The name is derived from the reeds that used to line the course of the Rohrbach.

location and size

Rohrbach is located on the Lützelsoon , part of the Hunsrück . Around 170 people currently live there. The district measures 3.76 km², of which 86 hectares are forested, it rises to 387 meters.

history

Rohrbach was probably founded at the beginning of the 11th century. The first documentary mention dates from September 27, 1304 in the regesta of the archives of the Counts of Sponheim . According to the report of a meeting in Dill :

"Walram Graf von Zweibrücken and Ruprecht Graf von Virneburg decide as elected arbitrators between Johann Council of Knights Heinrich Herr von Sponheim , Johann von Braunshorn , on the following point of contention: because of the ban wine (avoidance of wine) to Rohrbach, Wannenweiler and Dickenschied should be Truchsess Gottfried von Enkirch and Konrad von Maitzborn hold a hearing of the subjects and officials.
It seals: Simon and Johann Graf von Sponheim, Ulrich Herr von Hanau and Ludwig Graf von Rieneck. "

Two other documented mentions can be found from the year 1317, when Count Emich von Sponheim , archdeacon of the Liège diocese and titular pastor of Kirchberg, donated benefices in ten villages to support the chaplains , and in 1340, when Johann von Dhaun gave the knight of Sötern a wildgrave feud , the so-called Torsengut (circular to elliptical area) from Rohrbach.

Rohrbach must have belonged to the County of Sponheim since it was founded . After the family died out in 1437, the place came to the Counts of Veldenz and the Margraves of Baden . The Veldenzian inheritance came through marriage to the Count Palatine of Simmern-Zweibrücken . Around 1600, the southern part of Rohrbach with six " rear seats " belonged to the Front County of Sponheim in the Dill Office , the northern part of Rohrbach to the Baden Oberamt Kirchberg ; The limit was the Rohrbach. Until 1707, the Count Palatine and the Margrave administered the county together. Then the people of Baden became the sole owners of the Oberamt Kirchberg and thus also the rulers of Rohrbach. In October 1794, the place with the entire left bank of the German territories fell to France. From now on, the administration for Rohrbach was no longer with the administration in Kirchberg, but with Mairie Gemünden. After the Napoleonic period, the place was assigned to Prussia in 1815 and its Rhine province in 1822.

After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French again , the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946. When various former offices were amalgamated in 1971 as part of the administrative reform, Rohrbach was assigned to the Gemünden office of the Kirchberg association.

Rohrbach experienced the strongest population growth at the turn of the 19th century. In 1781 59 Rohrbachers lived in 12 families, in 1798 there were 20 families with 99 residents, and in 1840 207 people lived in the village.

coat of arms

Rohrbach coat of arms
Blazon : "Split, on the right in gold a red diagonal bar, on the left in blue a slanting left silver wave bar, growing from it two golden cattails with leaves."
Reasons for the coat of arms: In 2008, the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch was commissioned by the municipal administration to bring the coats of arms of the municipalities belonging to the association into a uniform design that meets the requirements of a coat of arms in the sense of a national emblem. The colors, the shape and proportions of the shield should be adjusted to each other and then the symbols named in the blazon - where necessary - should be corrected according to the heraldic terminology and the customs of heraldic art. The criterion was to fully retain the identity of the coat of arms. The order for the Rohrbach coat of arms was realized in January 2009 as follows: The right part of the shield reminds of the former affiliation to the margraviate of Baden, the left part of the shield indicates the place name.

economy

Most of the inhabitants used to make a living from agriculture or earned their living in the slate mine . There were several craft businesses: locksmiths, blacksmiths, shoemakers and wagons, as well as a shepherd and a swineherd. However, children had to keep emigrating to find work in the Saar and Ruhr .

There are currently (2014) four full-time farmers and one part-time farm; In 1966 there were still ten full-time and several part-time farms. There is also a wood workshop and a podiatrist. The majority of the population, however, works abroad, mostly in the immediate vicinity.

In Rohrbach there were earlier several " Backese " in which the families baked their bread. One is still sometimes used as a bakery today; Incidentally, as in the neighboring villages, it serves as a meeting room, where a music club and church choir rehearse or where the village youth meet.

religion

The 119 evangelical Rohrbacher belong to the Evangelical parish of Dickenschied in the parish of Simmern-Trarbach . Until the end of 2011, Rohrbach was an independent parish, which was parishally connected to the Evangelical parish of Dickenschied from the Reformation in 1557 until 1766 and again from 1963 ; that is, it was an independent parish, but the Dickenschieder pastor was also responsible for Rohrbach.

The church, built in 1791, belongs to the Protestant parish. The Catholics, who make up around a fifth of the population, have the right to celebrate masses there, which they use in particular for funerals and weddings.

The church building measures 12.85 m × 7.55 m. The interior furnishings - benches, gallery , altar  - are from the years of construction. Only the pulpit was created as early as 1701 in nearby Mengigart . According to the Reformed Confession, the presbyter's stalls are located opposite the parish and the pulpit in the apse . The baptismal bowl and the communion chalice date from around 1800. Two bronze bells had to be given away during the First World War; Today there are two steel bells cast in 1923 in the roof turret, which were given a bronze inner frame in 2002.

Culture

In the village there are four associations with women's aid, music association, rural women and the volunteer fire brigade , which are involved in various ways in village life. In 1958 the film Schinderhannes , in which u. a. Curd Jürgens , Maria Schell , Siegfried Lowitz and many Rohrbachers played, filmed under the direction of Helmut Käutner. In 1981/1982 the interior photos of Haus Simon were taken in the first part of the Heimat trilogy in Rohrbach. The location, Sooste , had already been selected at Schinderhannes .
