The three- cushion world cup 2013/3 was the third UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 27th year of the three-cushion world cup. It took place from September 16-22, 2013 in Corinth , Greece . It was the seventh World Cup tournament in Greece.

history

The first round started with many unexpected results. In the first round there was the first small surprise with the departure of Eddy Leppens , who had played a very strong qualification, against the Korean Heo Jung-han . The Spaniard Daniel Sánchez was next . Against the Vietnamese Trần Quyết Chiến he lost 2-1 in extra time. In round two of the basic round, after Guri Eddy Merckx against Lee Choong-bok, the tournament had to end for the second time after a game. For Jérémy Bury , who played well in the last World Cup tournaments, the tournament also came out against Kim Jae-guen. The Dutchman Dick Jaspers was hit in the third round . Against the Guri winner Kang Dong-koong he lost 37:40. In round four, Frédéric Caudron , second in the world rankings, ended . He narrowly lost to local hero Savas Bulut. Seven of the twelve seeded players were no longer represented in the tournament. The favorites continued to die in the round of 16. Here Cho Jae-ho retired against a brilliant Kim Jae-guen and European champion Marco Zanetti in extra time against Rubén Legazpi. Zanetti knocked out the game in the 18th shot. Legazpi stood at 32 points and had the follow-up. He managed the improbable and scored the necessary eight points. In extra time, Zanetti started with a good four points. But Legazpi again had a better answer and scored five points. The drama with the extensions continued in the quarterfinals. World number one Torbjörn Blomdahl was behind Tran with 34:38 in 17 shots. in the 18th admission, however, he was able to expel the game with six points. But Tran still had the follow-up. He solved it with two points for a tie. Blomdahl put up three points in extra time, two of which came out quite lucky. Tran played two safe collisions and was unlucky with the loss of position for the third point, which he then skipped. The match between Choi Sung-won and Tayfun Taşdemir also went into overtime. Here Taşdemir was the happier with 3-2. The semi-finals were unspectacular. In the final, Blomdahl showed his sensational form again. He clearly won with 40:19 in 15 shots and screwed the new world record in the general average (GD) to 2,739 . It was his 42nd World Cup victory.

Tournament mode

A lot has changed in the tournament mode since 2013.

  • The sentence system was abolished because the dullness was not calculable. Matches could last between three and five sets. Good timing was therefore not possible.
  • The game distances were set at 30 points in the per-qualification rounds and 40 points in the main qualification and in the knockout games. A tie is possible in the qualifying rounds. In the knockout round, overtime is played in the event of a tie. Each of the two players starts with the initial push. Whoever scores more points wins the match. If there is also a tie in extra time, the kick starts again until a winner is determined.
  • The shot clock was shortened to 40 seconds.
  • There are only two wildcards for the organizer and one each for three of the four associations CPB , ACBC , CEB and ACC in which the World Cup does not take place.

Four qualifying rounds are played. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners and the four best runners-up qualify for the final round. The main tournament is played with 32 participants.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. GD = general average
  3. HS = maximum series

Seeded players and wild cards

The first 12 players in the world rankings and the wildcard players automatically took part as players in the tournament in the knockout round. The first four of the world rankings are placed in positions 1, 16, 8 and 9.
