    Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic

As in the two previous seasons, the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany will have an impact on league operations at the beginning of the 2021/22 season . In July 2021, the state governments agreed to allow a maximum of 25,000 spectators or a stadium load of 50 percent at the beginning of the season in mid-August. Since Bavaria is the only federal state to have a lower occupancy than the upper limit, FC Bayern Munich will be able to play its home games in front of a maximum of 20,000 spectators. Due to the lower stadium capacity, this regulation has no influence on the number of spectators admitted to the Bavarian venues in Augsburg and Fürth.

    useful information

    • For the first time since the 2002/03 season , the reigning champions did not start the season with a home game.

    referee

Compared to the previous season, the number of referees fell by one to 24. Matthias Jöllenbeck from South Baden and Tobias Reichel from Württemberg have finally been promoted to the Bundesliga after a season of “promising promotion”. No longer there are Manuel Gräfe , Markus Schmidt and Guido Winkmann , who all retired due to reaching the age limit, as well as Bibiana Steinhaus , who announced her retirement in September 2020.
