The three- cushion world cup 2011/1 was the first UMB / CEB world cup tournament in the 25th year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from February 14 to 20, 2011 in the Turkish port city of Trabzon on the Black Sea . It was the first World Cup tournament in Trabzon.

history

Belgian ex-world champion Eddy Merckx secured his fourth World Cup victory by winning a 3-0 set win against the strong Korean Kim Kyung-roul . In the final he achieved the best performance of the tournament with a general average (GD) of 3,000. Merckx almost failed in the first round against the young Colombian champion Julian Morales. He was 2-0 down after two sets and, after a great fight, won the third set just 15:13 in nine shots. Sets three and four then went to the Belgian at 15: 9 and 15: 1.

Tournament mode

Four qualifying rounds were played in Trabzon. It was played on ten billiards. Hence the large field of participants. From the last qualifying round, the 12 group winners qualified for the final round. There were also wildcard players from the host and the associations from America, Asia and Europe as well as the UMB . The main tournament was played with 32 participants.

In the qualifying rounds, two sets of 15 points each were played in round robin mode. All games were played with a push . The shot clock was set to 50 seconds per shot.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. SV = rate ratio
  3. GD = general average
  4. HS = maximum series

Seeded players and wild cards

The first 12 players in the world rankings and the wildcard players automatically took part as players in the tournament in the knockout round. The first four of the world rankings were placed in positions 1, 16, 8 and 9.
