James Koven

James W. "Jamie" Koven (born April 18, 1973 in Morristown , New Jersey ) is a retired American rower . In 1997 he was world champion in single .

Koven rowed at the 1990 Junior World Championships in a four-man with helmsman , but did not reach the A-final. In 1993 he won bronze at the World Championships as a member of the American eighth . In 1994 the eighth won the World Championships in Indianapolis with Jonathan Brown , Sean Hall , Frederic Honebein , Robert Kaehler , Jeffrey Klepacki , James Koven, John McKibbon , Donald Smith and Steven Segaloff . After bronze at the 1995 World Championships, the American eighth finished only fifth at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .

In 1997 Koven started as a scull rower and surprisingly rowed himself the world championship title in single ahead of the German André Willms and the British Gregory Searle . In 1998 Koven won the World Cup regatta in Munich and the Diamond Sculls at the Henley Royal Regatta , at the World Championships he only reached the B-final after a defect and placed eighth overall. The following year he was eleventh at the World Championships. In 2000, Koven returned to oar rowing and took fifth place in the four without a helmsman at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney .
