Honorary citizen of Neuwied
- 1895: Otto von Bismarck (born April 1, 1815 in Schönhausen , † July 30, 1898 in Friedrichsruh near Hamburg ) was Prime Minister of Prussia from 1862 to 1890 and, at the same time, Chancellor of the North German Confederation from 1867 to 1871 and first Reich Chancellor of the German Empire , the establishment of which he played a key role.
- 1928: Julius Remy (* December 6, 1848, † August 29, 1932), manufacturer of potato flakes in Neuwied and Küstrin , local politician, founder of the Neuwied indoor swimming pool . He comes from the entrepreneurial family Remy ( Rasselstein ). "Julius-Remy-Straße" is named after him in Neuwied.
- 1943: Hermann Wilhelm Göring (born January 12, 1893 in Rosenheim , † October 15, 1946 in Nuremberg ), was a leading National Socialist politician and Commander in Chief of the German Air Force . The first Neuwied road bridge over the Rhine was named after him after its completion in 1935 as the Hermann Göring Bridge . With Control Council Directive No. 38 of October 12, 1946, the Allied Control Council declared the general denial of honorary citizenship for convicted war criminals (Art. VIII, Item II, Letter i). Notwithstanding the control council directive, honorary citizenship would have expired at the latest on death, which occurred on October 15, 1946.
