Aramon is a French commune with 4238 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gard department of the Occitanie region .
geography
Aramon is ten kilometers northeast of Beaucaire on the Rhône . The village is on the right bank of the river downstream from Avignon , opposite the Montagnette range of hills on the other bank of the river. About seven kilometers further downstream, the Gardon flows into the Rhône from the right.
history
The hills on the Rhône were inhabited since the Neolithic Age. In the 16th century the village belonged to Diana of Poitiers . Due to the success of the port, many new houses and villas were built in the 17th century. In 1703 François de Posquières founded the Ordre de la Boisson de la Stricte Observance , which aimed to ensure the quality of the wine.

Culture and sights
- Aramon Castle from the 13th century (rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries)
- Saint Pancrace church from the 12th century; around the church, on the church square created in the 18th century, there was previously a Gallo-Roman cemetery. Some 1st century grave steles are set into the walls of a house on Rue Pitot.
- Capitelles (small stone buildings) in the hills
economy
The formerly agricultural village became a location for the chemical industry. Sanofi-Aventis and Expansia produce in Aramon . There is also a thermal power station . However, agriculture and especially viticulture also play an important role in local industry.
