Ris is a French commune with 16 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitania region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of Neste, Aure et Louron .
geography
The municipality is located in the historic province of Bigorre , in the Pays d'Aure countryside . The Spanish border on the ridge of the Pyrenees is about 15 kilometers further south. The commune borders the Haute-Garonne department to the east . Neighboring municipalities to Ris are:
- Bareilles in the northeast,
- Bordères-Louron in the southeast as well
- Cazaux Debat in the West.
The location of the municipal capital is on the right flank of the valley called Vallée du Louron , high above the Neste du Louron river , which runs through Bordères-Louron at the bottom of the valley . The majority of the municipal area is predominantly impassable mountainous terrain at high altitudes and forests up to 2000 meters. As this is hardly populated, the overall population density is extremely low.

Attractions
The municipality has several cultural monuments that are classified as Monument historique .
- Chapelle Notre Dame des Neiges (German: Chapel "Maria Schnee"): built in 1884 in "Le Pradeau" and the headquarters of a brotherhood with around 25 members
- Église Saint-Blaise: remarkable Romanesque portal decorated with consoles and anointing oil
