Salisne (Ukrainian Залізне ; Russian Зализное / Salisnoje ) is a small town in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine with about 5,500 inhabitants.
The urban-type settlement Piwdenne (Південне) also belongs to the municipality, which in turn is part of the municipality of Torezk .
Salisne is located in the western Donets Basin about 4 kilometers southeast of the city center of Torezk and 44 kilometers north of the Donetsk Oblast Center.
The city was founded in 1894 under the name Nelepowskyj (Нелеповский), in 1921 it was renamed Artemowe / Artjomowo (Ukrainian Артемове ; Russian Артёмово ) in honor of Fyodor Andrejewitsch Sergejew , a Soviet revolutionary . After the discovery of coal deposits, the place developed into a mining site, and in 1938 it was granted city status.
During the Ukraine War , the city was shelled by separatists in December 2014, causing some damage to the place. On May 19, 2016, the place was renamed Salisne as part of the decommunization of Ukraine .
