Currency is a small commune with 50 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Somme department in the region of Hauts-de-France in northern France. The municipality belongs to the canton of Péronne and is part of the Communauté de communes de la Haute Somme .

geography

The municipality is - unusually for the area, in a wooded area - on the left bank of the Omignon , a tributary of the Somme , and north of the A29 autoroute that no longer touches the municipal area in the south, at the department of road D45.

history

The lords of Crécy-Châtillon had a castle built that covered the transition over the Omignon.

During the First World War , the place was completely destroyed in 1917. The castle (Château de Devise) was also destroyed. Devise was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914–1918 .

Attractions

The place was rebuilt after the First World War by the architects A Rischmann and L. Houblain. The new buildings include the two-tone brick and concrete church Saint-Rémi (1932–1934) with Stations of the Cross mosaics by Jean Gaudin and the parish hall (Mairie / École) in Art Deco style.
