Berlin parks and green spaces

Marking of protected green spaces

The list of Berlin parks, green and recreational facilities is a compilation of dedicated public parks , protected green and recreational facilities as well as large recreational facilities that correspond to a special external perception / effect. The overview is structured according to the twelve Berlin districts and does not aim to be complete. The Senate list shows more than 2000 corresponding attachments.

criteria

The basis for inclusion in this list is that of the Berlin Senate adopted the law for the protection, care and development of public parks and recreation areas (Green Investment Schemes Act - GrünanlG) of 24 November 1997 as amended in 2004 with the following major sections:

  • Section 1, Paragraph 1, Clause 2: "Public green and recreational facilities within the meaning of this Act are all horticultural facilities, playgrounds, open spaces, forest-like or near-natural areas, places and paths that either serve the recreation of the population or for the cityscape or the environment are important and are dedicated to the respective purpose according to the following regulations. "
  • Section 2, Paragraph 1: "A facility within the meaning of Section 1, Paragraph 1 is designated as a public green and recreational facility."
  • § 3: “The district offices have to keep a register of the public green and recreational facilities, which indicates the location and borders. [...] The directory can be viewed by anyone. "
  • The recorded data flow [...] into the green space inventory that can be called up from the Geoportal des Landes Berlin (FIS broker). Also in the FIS Broker there is no distinguishing feature in the detailed display of factual data that classifies parks, because all of them are assigned to the type “green space” (not street green).
  • Section 3, Paragraph 3: The areas shown in the directory are uniformly marked with the official Berlin sign for protected green spaces (tulip sign: see photo).

The information gathered according to this definition can lead to overlaps with the list of streets and squares in Berlin . In contrast, it clearly delimits pure traffic areas, cemeteries, outdoor swimming pools and sports fields.
