Breiholz ( Danish : Bregholt , Low German: Braholt) is a municipality in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district in Schleswig-Holstein and geographically belongs to the Holstein region . Part of the municipal area is south of the canal. Bastenberg, Claustal, Lohklindt, Meckelmoor and Wienböken are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Breiholz ​​is located about 13 km southwest of Rendsburg between the Eider and the Kiel Canal . North of Breiholz, the federal highway 203 runs from Heide to Rendsburg. The place is connected to Rendsburg by a bus line. The closest train station is Rendsburg.

The place is about halfway along the Kiel Canal. Passing the ferry Breiholz ​​and the soft Breiholz ​​are important for canal navigation.

The place name probably means broad wood . At that time there was a long forest cut in pulp along the Eider. When shipping passed this wide strip of forest, it said it passed the wide wood from which pulp was made today . The first written mention was in 1447.
