List of Seattle SuperSonics basketball players and coaches
Seattle SuperSonics was an American professional basketball team based in Seattle , Washington . They played in the Western, Pacific, and Northwest Divisions of the Western Conference within the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team joined the NBA in 1967 as an expansion team and won their only NBA title in 1979 . The Sonics also took part in the play-offs a total of 22 times . Their home games were played in the KeyArena (formerly Seattle Center Coliseum), for eight seasons in the Kingdome and one season in the Tacoma Dome .
Seattle began building ranks during the 1967 NBA Draft and the Expansion Draft that same year. Since then, 257 players have played for the franchise at least once. Seven of them were inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame : Patrick Ewing , Spencer Haywood , Šarūnas Marčiulionis , Gary Payton , David Thompson , Dennis Johnson, and Lenny Wilkens . Wilkens was also inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach and, with 45 years of service, is the most experienced coach in NBA history.
