The series is about a futuristic amusement park in which guests can play stories of the Wild West with the help of human-like robots ( hosts ), such as bank robberies, prospecting for gold, or have fun with the prostitutes in the saloon. The firearms in the park area are modified in such a way that the hosts can be damaged while the guests are not seriously injured. Defective hosts are repaired by engineers at night and the memory memories are reset.

The plot of the first season can be roughly divided into three storylines on different time levels. All of the storylines also revolve around the question of whether the hosts have become conscious, but that question remains open. Power struggles in the board

One of the two founders, Arnold Weber, tries to help the hosts to become conscious and develops a labyrinth for this. When the host Dolores reaches the center, he believes that he has found evidence of awareness before the park opens and wants to prevent the park from opening. development

On August 31, 2013, HBO announced that it had ordered a pilot episode for a potential television series based on the film Westworld . This was produced by Jonathan Nolan , who wrote the script with Lisa Joy. Nolan, Joy, JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk also served as executive producers.

The broadcast was originally planned for 2015. Due to multiple production difficulties, the broadcast was postponed to autumn 2016.

Filming

Early on, showrunner Nolan and cinematographer Paul Cameron decided that the series should be shot on 35mm film , although it was becoming increasingly difficult to acquire motion picture film from the remaining producers.
