About this picture

The district of Märkisch-Oderland is a district in the east of the state of Brandenburg . Neighboring in the north are the Barnim district , in the east the Republic of Poland , in the south the independent city of Frankfurt (Oder) and the Oder-Spree district and in the west the State of Berlin . The Märkische Schweiz Nature Park is located in the district. The demarcation was based on the principle of forming sectoral circles .

geography

The district, which lies in eastern Brandenburg to the east of the federal capital Berlin , includes the landscapes of the Oberbarnims , the German part of Lebus and the Oderbruch up to the German-Polish border river Oder .

history

The district was created in 1993 as part of the Brandenburg district reform by merging the districts of Bad Freienwalde , Seelow , Strausberg and partly from the district of Fürstenwalde .

After the municipal reform was completed in 2003, the district comprised 45 municipalities, including eight cities.

District Administrator

Schmidt was confirmed in office for a further eight years in the district council election on October 6, 2013 with 69.9% of the valid votes in accordance with § 126 of the municipal constitution of the state of Brandenburg.
